Speakers on outside of truck
Speakers on outside of truck
hey folks,
i have ALOT of bonfires and campouts ect. and always end up backing into the camp and opening my doors for some tunes.
well i thought of a bettr way... could i get two 6x8 marin speakers and mount them in small conter enclosers under my toolbox in the bed?
the only thing is i want to be able to switch them on and off. so cound i just just splice them to the exsisting back speakers with a switch in the middle?
Can someone tell me if this is possible?
i hope so cause that will be sweet as hell
thanks

And why 6x8's not 7's or 6's (which will be WAYY MORE prevelant).

i guess i thought that 6x8 were the loudest? and i cant find enclosers for anything other than the 6x8s... feel free to change my mind

Why not build you own enclosure....
And throw a set of 7" Marine speakers in there!!
Taking note that outside of the truck you have rain etc...
Or being that you hold Tailgate parties. Your buddies Beer etc...

Do all wiring behind radio, Take a switch and wire up to Ignition, then take 2 relays:
86 - ign behind switch
85 - Ground
30 - From deck RL or RR (depending on corresponding side)
87 - To Marine Spks in bed (you will need to run wires all the way back to the bed
87a - To factory spks via wires behind deck.
[numbers are corresponding to relay terminals, Will be on SPDT 30/40A Bosch relays (those are standard auto relays)]
Therefore, when you flip the switch, you will change from the rear spks to the bed spks. When turned off you will then have the rear spks on.
It sounds real complicated but will take all of 15-30 min to wire up.

I go to tailgate parties, bonfires, etc a lot too. My solution was a set of 6x9's in boxes. I bought the boxes from wal-mart for like $20 and I have some cheap 6x9 pioneers from best buy.
I ran RCA outs for all channels back to my sub amp when I installed my amp. When I want to use the speakers I take an extra 2 channel amp I have laying around - 75x2 at 4ohms - and just quickly wire it up off of my sub amp...just run a short piece of wire from each - power, gnd, remote to the 2 channel. NOTE: I jump directly from my sub amp to the smaller amp to avoid having to buy power distribution blocks, etc. It's minimal drain and not a full time install. I have 2 ga. power and gnd running to the sub amp and use 8 ga. to split off to the 2 channel.
I then plug into the front channel RCAs. Takes maybe 2-3 min. Then i throw some long speaker wires out of the rear window and put the speakers in the bed or on the roof. Set up takes 5 min max.
I use mine all the time at massive tailgates at WVU, Skins games, etc.
If you have a 4 channel amp for your interior you could take the speaker wires for the front channels, run them to a switch and have the output split. position one on the switch would power interior front channels and position 2 would power the exterior speakers.
