About the speakers, I dig em. Right now I probably have a better car audio setup in my bedroom than anyone else. It doesnt sound that good either since they are still in the boxes lol. Waiting on some more funds for sound deadening first. Still torn between going the budget route of eDead or just getting Dynamat Extreme also. We will see though.

NOW JL W7's... Those will give you both SQ and SPL!!
When I was working at Absolute Sound we did a Silverado standard cab and built a custom center console box that housed 2 10w7's and a JL 1000/1 amp mounted to the rear cab wall. Alpine Type R Seperates and Mrp-4 channel amp and of chorse Dynamat. That thing was SICK!! But was more or less an SPL truck!!
On the other hand when we did my buddy Dans 07 150 Screw we built a custom center console box from the middle of the rear seat to the floor! We called it the Toilet box That housed 1 8w7 powerd by a JL 500/1 and then an azz load of Alpine, JL and Dynamat goodies... That truck was also SICK but a killer in SQ!! And still held it's own in SPL!!!
Can you tell I'm board and snowed in at work...

Are they nearly the bets for both SQ/SPL? no.
Are they worth nearly the 600 bucks you pay for them? no.
There are much better subs for lower prices out there.

I used to hit 150 with 1 12" in a non-SPL daily driver. The advances in box designs and equipment has got people pullin insane numbers with not a lot of gear. Dont be so quick to count out a pair of 8"s.

Don't count out 8's...But be wise as to who's 8's you use grasshopper!!!
I have to say that I have learned who's subs/amps you use will play a roll in your over all performance and quality.
I'm board...
So say you have a single 12 JLw'7 I'm only useing JL again cause I LOVE em... Anyway...
You have a 12w7 pushed by a 1000/1 in a 66 Bronco your buddy has the same truck but with 4 8w7's each pushed by there own 500/1... Well do the math!!
4 8's= 32 inchs of cone area
1 12= well 12 inchs of cone area
1000 watt amp pushing 1 12= 1000 watts total power
4 500 watt amps pushing 4 8's= 2000 watts total power
SO... More cone area + more power + the right build= More SPL
DAM!! Now I want to build a 66 Bronco

4-8's isnt 32" of cone area... and 1 12 isnt 12" of cone area
OK so the volume of air your pushing is GREATER!! With 4 8's VS 1 12...
4-8's isnt 32" of cone area... and 1 12 isnt 12" of cone area ...How do you fiqure that??
4x8=32 & 12x1=12

W7 Subwoofer Drivers
The W7 embodies JL Audio’s commitment to pushing the envelope of speaker technology, with six patented technologies and a completely unique set of component parts. Each W7 model has been meticulously engineered to reproduce sub-bass with extreme fidelity at any volume level.
At first glance, you may only see a rather massive woofer, but as you begin to analyze the technology and the performance envelope of a W7, you will realize that they are much more than just another big SPL speaker. For us, designing a pure SPL speaker, with no regard to sound quality, would have presented a far lesser challenge than the one we chose to undertake with the W7 project. The goal was to design subwoofer drivers that deliver immense output with an extremely high level of fidelity.
It wouldn’t be enough for the speaker to sound great or be loud, it had to do both. This goal required us to develop a deeper understanding of the inner behavior of speakers, new and proprietary modeling systems and six new, patented or patent-pending technologies. We could have made a good-sounding, big speaker without going through any of this effort, but we chose to stretch our limits and devote the time and resources necessary to create a real breakthrough.
If that's not enuff here is the link...

As far as worth the money you get what you pay for!!
Better sub for less not in my opinion...
Alpine Type X ...crap, Type R's Great but not better!
Audiobahns
In my peronal truck I paid for A Stealth Box with a 10w3v3 and 500/1
Always check your ammo before entering the battle!

4x8=32 & 12x1=12
Area for a circle =pi(r2)
for 4 8"s =3.14(4)2=50.24(4)=200.96 square inches of cone
for 1 12" =3.14(6)2=113.04 square inches of cone
These are taking for granted a perfectly flat cone. Cone shape and excursion also play a vital role in how much air a sub moves.
And, no energized, I wasnt joking at all. You are more than welcome to do some research and you will find that I am, after all, correct.
My Bad....
Goo... Sorry mSaLL150... :o I didn't realize your running Audiobahns!!
I come from a shop where lets just say we had a handfull of people bring us those Subs that wanted them put in but ended up spending more in the long run for us to remove them later... Giving you my dislikeing towards them!
Nothing against you or more important your Truck!
Looks like you did a pretty nice build!!

[QUOTE=Crewwzin Thank you for backing me up. You are correct in saying that 4 8"s have a greater cone area than 1 12". Your math might not be so correct. So here you go.QUOTE]
Sure thing!!
Thanks... Yeah... Math never been my strong point...
Guess I should have been in that class back in the day rather then Auto Shop! Na....
SO Crewwzin whats your opinion on W7's??? We seem to be under attack

My opinion? I have heard a couple of JL demo vehicles with W7's and they were okay. I'm sure if my friends was installed differently, he would have blown me out of the water. Which goes back to my original point...its not what you have, but how you have it installed.
