amp not working, any suggestions?
I fixed this problem a little while ago, but it came back. At first i had just a 10" sub and this amp that came with the truck when i bought it and it worked for a while till it cut out one day. The front speakers and my amp would go in and out so we hooked up a different sub and it worked so we thought we had it fixed.
I then had 2 12's that my friend let me borrow and they worked for a little while and the same thing happend again except this time it went out and stayed out and only my back speakers work. The protection light comes on and no sound comes out of the front speakers, which are also hooked up to my amp. I've checked just about everything, the ground, all the fuses, the wires and everything looks fine. I've run out of ideas now of what it could be. any help is GREATLY appreciated
Thanks

what kind of amp and how many speakers total did you have running to that single amplifier? from the sounds of your post it seems like u had both subs and ur front and back speakers connected to that amp. sounds like you might have blown the amp with that
its a US acoustics 4300 watt amp i think, may be 100 more or less. but thats unbridged so all the power is split between the speakers and amp. At first, i had my 2 front door speakers running to it and a sinlge 10. Then i had the front door speakers and two 12's that were 600-800 max watts a piece.
no, nothing is bridged. i'm not sure on the ohms i'll have to look but i'm pretty sure its 4.
What do you mean by gains? I'm not too much of an expert at this kinda stuff

On the amp there is a **** that is usually labled 'Gain' or 'Level' or the like. It is used to match the amp to the voltage output of your CD players RCA outs.
Lots of people have a tendency to turn this **** all the way up, or close to it so its 'louder'. Never a good idea. If that is turned way up or close to it, try turning it down some, to like 1/2ish or less.

alright, i can't check it right now but i'll check it out and get back to you.
it has blown a few fuses though, but i'm not sure if that was from the amp being bad or the hot wires getting too close to something metal like the screw drivers or something.
