FYI cheap 5x7's

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=269-326

parts express has these component 5x7's on coseout for 4.88 ea. I picked up a pair to replace my OEM 5x7's it might be a good idea for those on a budget looking for something better than stock, I'm not expecting much but who knows, I thinks its worth 20 bucks, apparently they are a oem ford part, so they should be plug and play, having the tweeter next to the woofer is also good for sq

alright guys they are in and here's the 411...

they rock! ok not like 700 dolar component rock but still. they are in fact a ford part consisting of a 5.25 woofer that had what looks to b a butyl surround and plastic cone. the tweeter is silk. there is also a very simple 2nd order crosover on board.. look like a single cap and inductor.. I didn't really study it to well but its there. install took 5 minutes. being a ford part they are a simple drop in plug and play deal. now for the good part..

the sound is MUCH better than the stock 5x7s in my deadened doors. gone is the horrible cone breakup and honky midrage around 1.5k and the highs are so much clearer thanks to the separate tweeter. the high end doesn't roll off anymore and gone is that horrible 8k-10k peak I always had to attenuate with the old drivers. midbass is still a little blah but better. I don't think these are quite as efficient as the stock 5x7s but they do fine off hu power.

will they replace a really good set of comps? HELL NO. but I would defenetly recommend them to anyone that doesn't have the audiophile option or decent component set. if your cheap... broke, can't afford it or just really don't want to shell out the cash then these are it. for about 17 bucks + s/h you can upgrade all 4 which is a hell of a steal, the only other option after these for a budget comp I would consider would be a set of pheonix gold rsd's. honestly I'd buy em if you went planing on spending $150+ on comps

Ill add further review once I amp them and get some delay up and running

also after further research, I have information that these are pioneer drivers

I was (for lack of a better term) HEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLA about to buy some.. but I just can't convince myself to buy 'em w/o a reliable source of review... if styx puts an amp on 'em and they sound great .. and they still got 'em in stock........

I'm in, $26.14 total. I have a bad front left speaker, so it can't be a complete waste of money. Will let you know.

it'll be at least until spring before I can get them amp'd thes sound pretty good, defenetly an upgrade from stock, apparently they are pioneer drivers, bassically these are what came with the audiophile package for like the 500, freestar and ranger, its a little different than the f150 audiophile since the tweeter in next to the mid, thats a good thing tho, I'm happy with them, they'll do untill I can affor those germs or profi's I want, at this low price, having a seperate tweeter alone should be reason enuff to try em

these are a ford part, OEM plug and play, they are part of the audiophile option that came in a few of the cars, soundwise the tweeter helps with the clarity, I was suprised how bright the tweeter was being silk, of course anything would seem bright compared to a whizzer cone

I got 2 pair's of Alpine 5x7 with the swivel tweeter in them for $ 140.00 and they sound awesome. My truck will never be a show or SPL and they still sound amazingly clear compared to the stock. The speaker's cost a bit more then that retail but I had a buddy that could juice me up for a friend's and family cost.

Next time I need a set of speakers I will make sure I ask the oh mighty styxnpicks for his best ruling on speakers.
