The rule of thumb is... you need to double wattage or double cone area to go up 3db. In most cases, 3 10's should give you just as much bass as 2 12's (assuming the power is the same and the boxes are properly tuned).... square inches, 3 10s have about the same amount of cone area as 2 12s.

If you want deeper bass, you could probably accomplish that with your 10's by just putting them into a bigger box (or possibly by adding some more polyfill to make them think it was bigger).... or by building a new box for the 3 10s that is ported and tuned at a lower frequency.

I would save the $500 and wait until you can do the 4 12's like you want, and work with what you have.

Dunno the space you have to work with but got room for a 15'' in there? I have a 15'' Memphis M1 on my back seat (which is layed down) in my screw. Plus you can hear me from a good ways away. With that center console out i bet you have room for 1 15'' sub in a ported box. Get something along the lines of an M3, or Memphis Mojo... and your ears will be hurtin.

(i'm just talking about memphis speakers because thats what i've always been around... dont know much about others and how they sound)

You can make anything fit... Just depends on the work you want to do to get there....

If your going for just straight loud bass you can hear from far away.... I'd say the single 15''? someone let me know if im wrong. i have a 15 like i said before and it isn't shy to let people know when i coming down the street.

Its also nice respond like this..

"hey man what you got in there.. 2 12s or something?"
"hahaha 12's.... I got a 15.... In the BACK SEAT of my truck"
lol

But do one thing. If possible, down fire it.
You WONT regret it.
