Help With Upgrade

I do not know much in the area of audio systems, so I figured that you guys could help. I have a 2006 F-150 STX regular cab and i was looking for a system that sounds better than stock with some bass, but it doesnt have to be super thumpin. I was thinking of maybe just upgrading the speakers. With the little knowledge i have about speakers I am not sure what brand to go with. Thanks.

What kind of budget are you looking at. Also what are you powering them w/ do you want to add an amp. Are you using the stock head unit or aftermarket. If aftermarket what kind. Also do you want to add a sub later on. What kind of music do you listen to.

I have about 300 dollars to work with. My whole system is stock right now. I dont know whether i should add an amp or not. I dont really want a sub. I usually listen to rock and country.

With that budget you could ebay some speakers (woofer or door speakers depending on what you want to do first) and an amp, Then pick up an amp kit, line output converter, and some speaker wire.

What I did with my little scort box, subs, amp, and misc parts and ran about $250 for decent stuff.

if your not trying to crank it up way loud you would be good with just throwing some new door speakers in for now. also you may just want to start with a new head unit. the head unit will add a little more power to the speakers so that will make your stock speakers sound better. are you looking to do a complete audio system in the future? look on crutchfield.com for now

i like the head unit because it matches and it fits nice. aftermarket heads are to flashy and colorful. i am going with the black on black look and havent found any black head units. So want kind of speakers should i go with for the upgrade.

personally i really like my pioneers that i have in my truck but how much you want to spend. i believe that you only have your two front speakers so you can go with a nicer set considering you only have to get one pair. whats your budget?

They are typicaly more expensive then several speakers of equal sound quality. I have never tried them myself and can't speak about them from personal experience.

From my personal experience I beat the snot out of my last set of JL's which were 4 5x7's and a 10W0. They ran for 200,000 miles without a single problem. My three previous sets were Kicker and were blowing up on a regular basis. So it's purely personal experience.

Here's a couple quotes that were posted during a discussion on another board. I had not said they were the best. Just that they were my preference.

JL fanboys who haven't heard any "underground" companies are just as bad as people who don't know anything about audio and swear up and down that their pyramid subs sound just as good and loud as the almighty w7
and

You are a moron if you think JL is the best sounding sub out. You are equally a moron if you think you can't match the performance(both SQ and SPL) for cheaper by ways of underground or "non-mainsteam" audio companies.
Just seems to set some people off for some reason *shrug*

JL makes solid product... there are better options out there... some that are a better value, but JL still makes a decent (overpriced) product. nothing wrong with using JL but there are better options that cost less
