I'm selling my Memphis M-Class 5X7's if interested. The sound great But I don't need them in the rear doors. I keep them turned off 99% of the time.
BTW I'm still going to be using the same ones in my front doors.

Nothing wrong with JL or liking them . Only when punk kids lay down 3 grand on a pair of Dub7s and a pair of 1000/1s and think they have the most badass system ever, or have never heard of anything but the mainstream brands (which I will agree, JL dominates most mainstream) and think JL is God because of its popularity.

Like styx said, JL makes a stout product, no doubt. Nothing wrong with em if you have the cash to lay down and are full of it

Very true. However, does the stock deck put out enough power to push a higher end speaker so that it will sound as good as it is designed to?

I know you want to keep the black on black factory look but if you want quality, I suggest you keep looking and find a decent mid level HU and mid level speakers. The combination of the 2 will be a night and day difference from the factory setup and can easily be had for under $300 even with crutchfields inflated prices.

Their inflated prices do come with everything you need for installation though. Big plus if you're doing the install yourself and probably not so inflated either when you look at the cost of materials and installation.

i say really just save some more money and buy a 7" monitor that mounts flush with the dash... it looks very clean and then you don't have to worry about the gap that is created when putting in a new HU. my buddy just did this in his 04(new body) and its the cleanest looking HU i have ever seen

Best price I've found on a new double din is $699. that's more than double what's he's looking to spend and he still wouldn't have speakers. I agree with you completely about it looking good. It's the route I'm taking but he's on a budget.

Any well known brand speaker will sound better than stock. JL is high end expensive stuff last time I checked. For what you want, kenwood, pioneer, sony, infinity will all do the job and sound way better than stock. I just picked up a Kenwood Excelon KDC-x491 from crutchfield for $175. Plays mp3, wma, has 2 pre amp outs and sub out, usb input on the front, aux input in the rear. I was looking at speakers too. 6.5" 3 ways for under $100 a pair.

If you use the stock headunit and try to buy new speakers, you better make sure that you find a set that are real efficient. I wanted to go that route originally and found that the stock headunit only puts out about 5 watts per channel and sucks. I had bought some type s 5x7 coaxials because they were rated very efficient. It sounded like crap and I bashed the type s's thinking that it was the speakes. Then someone on here convinced me that it was the headunit that needed replacing. I replaced it with a nice alpine unit and it made a huge difference over stock. Even with the stock speakers in the back it sounded 10 times better. Since then, just like everyone else that just wants there stereo to sound a little bit better, I have done a full upgrade.

I recommend to people that dont want a sub, and are stuck on the thought that they do not want to add a amp, to change out the headunit with one with some good rms power. Even on the stock speakers, you will hear the improvement immediately.

Trust me...

x2 but if you're like me, you'll blow the hell out of the stock speakers in a month.

For under $300 you can easily upgrade the HU and speakers as long as you stick with mid level brand names and models. (Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC, Etc...)

Reg cabs on newer models have two pairs of 5x7's, pioneers get good bass response, they'd sound great w/rock and country If I was to get some pioneers though I'd make sure to get the three way over the two way n e day

This is very true. Especially if you never plan on running a highs/mids amp, you can get a pretty nice headunit and speakers for cheap. $300 would do it.

I know a lot of people are running the polk db's 5x7. I have heard them off of a aftermarket headunit, and they are nice. I had a set of pioneer 3-ways on my old ford to, and they were good.

Just make sure you pick up a set of speakers that have a high sensitivity rating. If you arent running an amp, you will need to pay attention to this number.

Good Luck and let us know if you need any more help,

TheGhost

same setup x2

I'm also wanting to keep the stock HU, just for the "sleeper" look. Crutchfield techs told me that I have to add a new Sirius antenna & tuner, that the $100tuner still isn't plug & play ya have to mount a new antenna. 1)Can I replace the stock antenna w/ the new one? 2)Can I just run small amps to each speaker to increase my output? Plus, 3) if my cheap Lightning Audio's have 2x the magnet & structure over stock, why wouldn't they be an upgrade? I understand they're not the best, but wouldn't they be a mid-level speaker? If expensive isn't always best, then can cheap be at least good? Thanks guys

Get yourself a nice smaller 4 channel to hook up to the stock HU and power all 4 speakers. A little 50wrmsX4 would work nicely all around.

Bigger doesnt always mean better. Quality, not quantity
