Quick Question for Any and All

Ok, so I get an email from a guy who bought two sets of components from me back in January. He is saying he just now took them out of the box and had custom kick panels to put them in made and one set of mids is blown. It has been over 7 months. Should I feel obligated still. I mean, I always stand by my stuff. You all know that but 7 months. Just wanted some thoughts. BTW...These speakers worked when I pulled them. I ran all drivers in my truck before I switched to the Germs. Thanks.

Alot of stuff could happen in 7 months. He!! a mouse could have gotten in it, it could have gotten wet etc. Most stores won't let you return it after 30 days regardless of if you used it or not. So my vote would be no. He shouldn't have put it off so long.

Little more info. He took them to a shop still in the bubble wrap I sent them in. Shop is telling him that the are fried and one of the mids, the cone is frozen up and will not move. Now, I know I did not send them this way. I would never, ever do that. Again all of this is basically his word but, I hate leaving a bad taste with someone but come on.

Everyone is trying to get something for nothing anymore, they worked when he bought them obviously so tell him to eat sh-t. What if he's installed wrong, dropped or did something even by accident, oh well, not your problem. That was ballzy even to ask you. Nice people get pushed to the back of the line, don't reward ignorance and stupidity

I sent him this:

"Sorry but no way. I would never, ever sell something that was broken. There was no way I sent you a set of mids with one voice coil broken and another that the cone was stuck. I have been buying, selling and trading on many forums and ebay since 1999. I have built a great reputation for being honest. I just could not do otherwise. I am very, very sorry if something has happened to the mids but, I know without a doubt the condition they were in when I sent them out, over 7 months ago."

It is my nature to care about people and I get a pit in my stomach when someone comes at me with something like this. If it had been 3 or 4 weeks, I would have gladly refunded his money but, too much time has gone by. Thanks guys for the support.

something probably went wrong between the time he got them and the time they were "installed" by a "professional" installer

tell him to suck it

I remember getting screwed on ebay once too.... bought some 6x9's and it took many emails and months to get them and when I did get them the tweeters cone was cut out..... not pushed in... not blown.... but cut out. I told him he was a douche and callled him some other nice stuff.... **** happens right? part of life. you win some and you lose some.

I feel ya D. I would feel a little bad about it too, but you know they were perfectly fine when you sent them out.
He either F'd them up himself and is trying to play it like he didnt do anything and they were like that, or else as someone else said, they got messed up sitting for so long by something else. IF he had them stashes somewhere he could have easily thrown something on them without knowing or anything.

I would def. not refund him or anything, but I would still feel a little bad and maybe try to help him find a new pair of mids or something, thats just how I would feel/what I might do anyway.

If he wanted a warranty, buy new from Best Buy or something. Nope, he rolled the dice and got snake eyes, oh well. People trying to pawn off responsibility on honest folk, good job deconder, you did all you could, rest at ease.

I agree and you would most definly know if one was fried and the other VC was stuck, I buy used audio a lot, hell most of my system is used, the XA4000 I'm installing now is used and the IDQ6 are used...

I have never taken more than a few weeks, 30 days top to either install or bench test any used audio equ... the IDQ6 I just got from a guy on DIY.com, I DDM to coils and moved the cone in and out by hand looking and listening for noise and rubbing the same day I received them

being able to and knowing how to test used audio in a must or you better buy new with a warrenty....

But, from 7 months ago, no way, not a penny refund....

Voice coils can easily fry or get stuck..................................when they are plugged into a 110 wall socket....lol

I feel you man. I just got this myself with one of my alarm systems. I have a customer right now that purchased a alarm back in February and never got around to installing it himself. Even thought my systems are wired for the do-it-yourselfer with tech support he took it to a local shop to have it installed instead and they claimed that the door lock outputs don't work. So I next dayed him a new unit. They claim that the new one's door lock outputs don't work either. That's just plain silly. Fishy more like it. The odds of this are crazy. They just don't know what they're doing. The shop won't even bother to call me for tech support on my system even though I wired it up personally. Now the customer wants to send me the unit back and have me refund his money. After 8 months??? After a perfessional shop claims both don't work. Nonsense. I gaurantee he got jerked around by the shop and wound up having to buy one of their systems. I'm a honest guy myself and everyone knows I will go that extra mile for people. I got the same knot in my stomach over this one.

I have yet to receive the original waranty unit from over a month ago. So basically I'm out a new complete alarm system plus the cost of sending it next day. I should have had him send me the "bad one?" and plug it into my truck to verify if there was a problem but I was trying to take care of him fast.

Doug - Screw him!!!! I'm willing to bet he fried them because he doesn't know what the hell he is doing!!!! Besides...used = sold "as is", that's why you build your reputation as a seller and establish references.

This happen to me with one of the many 9.0s I sold. About 3 months after I sold it to the guy, he emailed me and said it would not power up. After I instructed him of MANY possible remedies (basically gave him step by step instructions how to install his system) he still insisted it was fried. After I told him he would have to send it back to me and let me check it out...I never heard from him again.

Anyway, if this guy tries to go public on you, just let me know when and where and I'll head on over and back you up!

Again, thank all for the support. It seems he is not after a refund or anything. He just wanted to make me aware that they were fried. Which they were not. I have not heard back from him in a day or two so, I think it is all cool. I just hate when deals go sour. Especially if you know you are right and the other party swears they are right. Oh well, all part of it. When you have done as many buy, sell and trades as I have, it's bound to happen once in a while. Never had someone accuse me of selling broken stuff though. That was a first.

I can't believe he dindt test them as soon as he got them to make sure they worked, I know I test every driver free air hooked up to a channel of my home theater to make sure they at least work.. not only does that make sure your not receiving DOA drivers you also know that they worked prior to being intalled.
