75 watts...Components or Coaxials

Hey guys,

Just wanted some thoughts from you all. My Alpine theater amp tests at 75 watts per. Should I go with components or just some really good coaxials? I am just not sure if 75 watts is enough to do components justice. I know the better components I have used (Diamond Hex, ID Chameleons, Rainbow Germs) really need more power to sound their best. What do you think?

Id still throw a set of comps on it. Even with only 75 watts I would easily say that comps will still be a big step over a set of coaxials. No to mentions just the overall product quality a set of comps has over a set of coaxials.

Heck I ran my Profis off 75 watts for awhile and Id be damned if I ever heard a set of coaxials that I would have ever considered swaping.
I wouldnt be to worried about it.

I agree, 75W RMS should bring a set of comps to life.....

i ran my rainbow cmx's off of 75 for ever and they sounded amazing. The only difference since adding more power is they just get louder

its the same thing pretty much
just the tweeter isent on the speaker cone...

a comp will have better sound then a coaxial
USALY

but main thing is sound...

a comp can be setup better tho...
stock speaker spots suck....

if your saying 75 watts rms thats fine for what ever

alot of comps are rated at 50 watts rms

Thanks for the reassurance guys. Comps it is. Busy scouring for a set of ID Chameleons now. I am not sure if I can fit the 6 1/2" or not. The Chameleon 6 1/2" mid is huge and there is not a ton of room in the MDX door.

I will cut plastic but, I do refuse to cut metal any more. I have done my share of metal hacking away but, just do not have the stomach for it any longer. I really think I might be able to get the 6 1/2" mids to fit by just cutting out the plastic baskets. I need to do some measuring and find the ID depth for sure.

if your saying that they are to deep...

just get a sheat of MDF and make a spacer for the speaker so it
can fit...

There is only so much room between the mount and the factory grill cover. I have to make spacers either way but, I just need to see how thick of a spacer I can get in there and still get the factory grill back on.

You know me

I wish Q logic made kick panels for the MDX but, they do not and I just do not have the time or patience to make a set. I think I can get the 6 1/2" to fit in the door without too much problem. I found some tweets already and have a couple of leads on some mids. Won't be long now.

There was some IDQ 4 ohm mids for sale in the car audio classifieds the other day, they may still be for sale.

Thanks Best. I saw those. I am planning on setting up the Chameleons are coaxials and the IDQ mids do not allow for that.
