JL Stealthbox 10w3...wired wrong??
JL Stealthbox 10w3...wired wrong??
So I've got a 2005 supercab, have the JL stealthbox with a 10w3...I had a guy listen to it and he said it isn't hitting like it should, and that the place that installed it may have wired it in a way where they only connected it to one voice coil or something so that there is less of a chance of it to blow? He said a lot of places do that so that they dont get returned or something...Anyone heard of anything like this or experienced it?
the stealth boxes are prewired to 4 ohm mono. I think it unlikely they rewired it. what amp are you using? and who is listening to it and saying it not hitting hard enough? that person could be used to a louder system than one ten. also the gain on the amp may not be set right.
Ya check to make sure your gains are set correct because that amp cant be wired wrong they are made to give off the same power at any ohm load. Again I dont know what sub your friend has and how much power he has going to it. if its the same combo in his truck it could be that his gains and bass boost are set higher or just that you were listening to it from the back seat but that shouldnt make to much of a difference. Sometimes the head unit can have an effect as well
Wiring only one voice coil up would give it MORE of a chance to blow. Like Greg said, the Stealthbox should be prewired from the factory...no reason an installer should take it out and rewire...if its even possible (do they just put a SVC 4 ohm in there, or is it a DVC?).
I would guess the guy was just trying to act like he knew something.
