10W7 Supercab Box Idea

I got this photo from LMIWelding.com.

I'm thinking of removing the bottom part of the seat (the flipped up part shown), and building a box for a 10W7 to put there in place of it. Would this work? What would be good dimentions for a good box for a 10W7 that would fit here?

Thanks in advance.

Also, if anyone has any other ideas, feel free to share them.

Why not? heh

You lose the seat, obviously, but yes it obviously would work. I would suggest doing your best to cover the brackets that will be left there, and maybe add additional function to the box (arm rest, storage container, amp racks) so it ties in better.

Yeah I'll mount the amp on the box probably. I dont mind losing a seat, the truck seats 6 as it is, although I always keep the center console down, if I never need another seat I can flip it up.

Go for it. I did something similar in my old truck for a single 12. It stuck out like a sore thumb, but it worked

Or if you dont want that, you can lift that back seat at do a front firing box under the seat like Bry did.

i never realized brypink ran a front firing box...sounds like a great idea but i would constantly worry about damage to the drivers cone and surround unless i had really stout grilles in place

I would worry about that also. I dont care who it is that rides back there, someone is bound to put a heal through the cone or something.
Not to mention I dont think it would sound the best...

im guessing it would cause the bass frequencies to do some odd things since the waves are going to be traveling directly toward the front of the truck, going into, under, and around the seats and center console, as opposed to all waves traveling the same general distance (i.e. towards the floor, into the seatbacks, into the trunk). i guess maybe that wouldnt affect it all that much since waves are boucing all over the place when you have subs facing up in custom center consoles and when large boxes are built in the extended cabs and crewcabs so that the seating area is gone and the entire rear of the cab is used for subs. something about those waves traveling along the floor towards the front footwells of the truck bothers me. but yeah it wouldnt take me but maybe a month or two before i had a golf club, or someones heel straight thru a cone.

I always wondered if you could cover a box in the location with some padding and a leather look a like or cloth depending on what you have and make the box act as a seat. I just do not know if you would have the same height as the stock seat but, would could look good and remain functional.

i have recently begun pondering the possibilities of somehow making the rear seat area into a box without losing the seating in the truck...basically attach the seats and seatbacks to the box...with seatbelts and all that jazz...bolt the box down to the factory seat mounting holes, make it as safe as possible, and get the maximum possible airspace without losing any seating, only thing you would have to do is get pretty exact on all design issues so that the seat cushions and back would still fit together, look, and feel as designed. if you could make that work it would be awesome. cover the box in the same dark tan carpet as the floor so it blends well.

to get the maximum airspace, just fiberglass around the seat frame, and just go about it that way. you wouldnt be able to remove the box without taking the whole back seat out. but that would still be pretty slick

ha ha i did that with my truck. i folded down one of the seats and i put a 15" mtx 9500 sub in it. i made the box fit perfect in there. it is as tall as the window and the box is like 2" away from the seat. it is hooked up to a jbl 1200 watt amp and it bumps quite well. now i just have to worry about things rattling off the truck ha ha.
