I am wanting to replace my front door speakers (already did the back doors) with 6X8 comp. It was recommended I use the factory tweets instead of the aftermarket tweets in order to make the install easier (ie, don't have to take off the door panel). The factory tweets still have to go to the crossover and I am not a big fan of cutting factory wires. As a result, I am strongly leaning towards removing the factory stuff.

Questions: has anyone used their factory tweets with a comp. set? How do they sound? No problems sending the tweets to the crossover? Where did you place the crossover? And the crossover has a slot (+ and -) for a 3db change? Anyone provide insight on this?

Appreciate the help and responses. BTW, I am using Infinty Reference 6810cs, without any amps at this time.

 

If the tweets are metal domes, such as my 1" titanium domed MB Quarts, and you mount them no lower than the factory tweet slot, then decreasing the gain at the crossover IMHO is a good idea.

I've dropped mine 1.5 db at the crossover. Metal domes are very accurate and kinda shrill, so 1.5 db takes the edge off.

Here's the location of my tweets in the factory tweeter hole. My MBQ crossover's are rather large, so they're in the map pockets, not very stealthy. Some here have successfully mounted their crossovers inside the arm rest. Great location if you can fit them there because the arm rest pops off easy for access if you want to change the gain on your tweeters...

If your upgrading the front stage, why only do it half way by not using the tweeters?

Im not sure how much power the factory tweet can take either...could be pushing it depending on how much power you are planning to run.

Just play around with your tweeter settings. With my HU I can adjust mine b 1db at a time, and ended up with mine 3db down. Makes a huge difference.

 

I was told using the factory tweeters would not make much of a difference between them and the Infinity tweeters. I am wanting to know if someone else has used the factory tweets when upgrading to comp. in the front doors vice using their new tweets.

 

why would you want to use the factory tweet? the infinity crossover has been designed to be used with the infinity tweeter. using another tweeter could have horrible results.

 

Exactly why I asked the question. I didn't think you would want to use the factory tweet....just thought I'd see if anyone was doing it and what the results were.

BTW, removing the front door panel is the same as the rear (- the trim piece around the window)?
