Improving sound quality
Improving sound quality
Hi, I just installed a brand new avic-d3 in my 05 screw and was wondering how i could improve the sound quality. Should I replace the speakers with a nice aftermarket set? If so what would be a good choice? Do I need an amplifier? Would an amp just make the music louder or would it improve the clarity of the sound? Should I install a sub, and how much/how difficult would a sub be to install? Thanks.

You can 'deaden' your front doors like this:

You can buy this material and read about it from a number of sources on line, search for Sound Deadening.
I use RAAMat from

Rick's a helluva guy and full of useful how to's.
Then replace the front OEM speakers with whatever is left of your $400.
Fade the balance to mostly the fronts is what people mean when they say 'ditch the rear fills.' This move's your 'sound stage' forward and gives a little better sound quality.
Next step up requires about $500 for a moderate amp, crossovers, subwoofer and enclosure and tweets up front.

sorry i should have been more specific. I have a 2005 lariat super crew, and as for my installation skills, well, i have never done anything up until a few weeks ago. I installed my avic-d3, the backup camera, bluetooth, xm traffic, ipod hookup, PAC steering wheel controlls, and put a mini ps2 in the glove box.

Nice, so how did you manage to get the door panels back on with all the catch holes covered up?
