New sub box. Need some help!

Hey all,
I just built a new sealed box w/amp rack on top, and didnt take into effect of how easy it is to see for potential theives. Plus, it sits on top of the rear seat, pushed up against the drivers seat...doesnt the seat absorb some sound?

I want to build a new box to put under my seat, after a seat lift. I have a single 10 inch Kicker Comp VR. I listen to it all...rock, rap, country, punk. Am I on the right track to build another sealed, or try a ported? Anyone have a recommendation on a good cu ft? Anyone have pics?

1997 supercab 150

Thanks in advance!

you can take a look at what I am doing. kinda going along the same lines as what you have maybe already done but I am taking theives into account.

Depending on what your after it's pretty difficult to get anything "good" to fit under the seat without a seatlift and even then it's tough. I don't know anything about that sub but I would just go to kickers website and find out what they recommend. Sealed is gonna give you more options but the output suffers IMO.

lol can't fit anything "good" under the seat? wasn't brypink running 2 w7's under his rear seat before swithing to 2 si mags? I'd say both those setups are pretty good.

elaborate on his setup please. I am sure it's more involved than your mentioning.

And he ran a pair of 10w7 under the seat with a seat lift as well.

Pretty much the rule is 5.5" or less without a lift. Up to maybe 7" with a lift.

I know you're right about this from reading all the posts on it, but doesn't it seem odd that the 2.5" lift only nets us 1.5" better mounting depth?

That was d just tossing out some numbers. Roughly speaking the max mounting depth on a unlifted seat and 5/8" MDF box would approximately 5.75-6" Add a 2.5" lift and you add 2.5". So the new max would be 8.25-8.5"

Most people after some education on speaker performance understand you don't want to hit the max mounting depth, in other words you don't want the sub sitting against the back wall. The subs need a little more breathing room for peak performance. So even if your box can hit max 8" use a sub that leaves some room between the box and the sub for air to flow free.

Yes, it does. But that's the way it works out. Believe me, I wanted to run a 10" IDMAX with 7 5/8" depth. Just would not fit without a lot of custom work.

Thanks for bringing that up. You're definitely right about that. JL Audio, for example, has a pole vent that they suggest gets a 3/4" minimum clearance from the box.

I think it might also have something to do with the fact that I'm thinking of a box with BryPink's specs and I'm pretty sure his box has more elevation off the floor than some of the boxes you see for sale on Ebay which claim up tp 5.75". I think the elevation is necessary especially for subs that move more air, but it's got to decrease the available mounting depth. However, I'm confident that Bryan(and some of the others on here) know better than I do, since they've built them and mine's only theoretical right now!

I just figured maybe someone else had just a single 10" VR, and was wondering what cu ft they used for it? I think I will build a ported box, slot tuned to 38 hz, with the sub facing the rear of the cab on an angle.

Don't forget the Xmax on the subs as well. That's the excursion distance that sub will come out when playing. I'd add 1-2" to that number if possible.
