Up Fire, or Down Fire Sub??
Up Fire, or Down Fire Sub??
I'm looking at two different boxes for my '05 super cab. The first one is an up fire made by Probox:

The second is the down fire box made by musicmoose audio:

My question is which box is going to sound better? By better I mean good, clean, loud, hard hitting bass. I've been told by a local install shop that down fire is the only way to go, but I've heard from another installer that they prefer the up fire.
What are everyones thoughts?
As far as subs, I havent decided yet. I'm open for suggestions. I was wanting to figure out the box situation first. Thanks in advance for any replys.

I have yet to see how the probox works. Does it sit below the seat level? If the seat sits right on the box, there is no way that can sound good. Any sub with a thick surround that stuck up above the frame would make it even worse. I would go with down firing. As long as the sub does not hit the carpet, it would be fine.
Edit....It looks like the Probox is counterbored to allow the edge of the sub to sit flush or below the top of the box. I still like the down firing idea. Firing in to the seat has got to loose some impact. That's alot of seat to go thru.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the down fire as well. Plus, I like the idea of being able to lift the rear seat and throw things on top of the box without worring about the sub. I know this has been been asked a million times before, but what sub does everyone recommend for this down firing enclosure?

Both places though are factory authorized dealers and full warranty will apply.
Thanks for the links. I see that there are two models, one is 2ohm and the other is 4ohm. What difference am I going to see in performance between these two? I will be using the sub channel of my JL 500/5 to power the 10" (250 watts).
With that amp, either sub would work. The JL is rated at 250 watts in to a 1.5-4 ohm load. A dual 2 you can wire to 4 ohms and a dual 4 you can wire to 2 ohms. Both would receive the same power. The only benefit would be if you had an amp that would do say 150 watts @ 4ohm and 300 @ 2ohm but, the JL amps do not work that way with the regulated power supply.
