Need help picking front/rear speakers!

Just bought a 2005 FX4 Supercab Truck and going to upgrade the stereo system.

I think im going with a JVC KWAVX706 DVD/CD/SD Receiver with 6.5" LCD.
Hoping to by-pass it.
Then a Alpine MRP-F450 4 channel Amp for the front and rear speakers.

I have a 10" sub that I will be using with a Alpine MRP-M450 amp.

However I dont have a clue on what speakers 5x7/6x8/5-1/4 to place in the front and back. I would think I should go with components in the front.
I have a $300.00 budget for all 4, ok so what would you buy!?!

Also after reading some other posts I seen were some people do not add rear speakers and not sure I understand why? Is it mostly for people watching DVDs for better surround sound? I would think you would want 4 speakers?
It just seems the more speakers the better. NO biggie was just curious.

oh one last thing...do I really need to change the stock speaker wire and re run new thicker wire to help better sound ect.. I wouldnt think so for the small upgrade Im doing or wouldnt notice a differance I wouldnt think for the common person?

Thanks for any replys!

This post I submitted on another thread may clear it up for you why we suggest replacing fronts only.

To get back to the original question on what to do for rear spks, I too would say leave them stock and only use them as needed. Spend all your money on the front speakers. If you were to listen to a high end home stereo or even a live performance in a good room, you will hear some of the music as it reflects off the back wall, giving you a sense of the size of the room you are in. Now if you play that same music in your truck the interior material will absorb most of the music before it can reflect back to you. Adding rear speakers can give you some of that effect, but can easily destroy the front sound stage while doing so. The amount of sound, or volume needed from the rears to create that is so little, it makes no sense to spend more money on new speakers, the stocks can handle that with ease. Another situation where rear speakers come into importance is when you have rear passengers and you want to entertain them, again the stock speakers are quite capable with that as well, since you probably wouldn't have the volume up to concert levels. If your passengers demand more sound quality than that then they can take there own car and you can sit in the back and bitch about their crappy radio. As far as playing music for the kids in the back how good can you possibly make barney sound?!? (and why would you want to). As far as 5.1 rear speakers, if you where that far into building that kind of system, this wouldn't be one of the questions you would be asking.

Get EDIT: 6.5" speakers. I think the majority of us agree that it's the best size/biggest you can get without cutting metal in all 4 doors. You'll need 5x7 door plates or make your own MDF plates to use them. A bit of work but it's worth it.

Far as rear speakers go. Sure if you can't afford them don't bother replacing them. I wouldn't run stock speakers with aftermarket though. If you can't decide if you need them you might try this... in your truck listen to your favorite tunes and turn the back speakers off. Listen for a while and then turn them on. What sounds better to you? Are you worried about accurate sound stage reproduction or just want to hear the tunes sound good? Do you plan on installing rear monitors for the kids to watch the movies?

For me as the driver, if I want to crank the volume I don't give a rats tail about sound stage I'm looking for sheer volume. 4 door speakers can do more than 2.

It's really depends on what your taste are for rear fill.

Also might I suggest before you lay down the cash please pop in here and ask our opinon. I shop around a lot online and I'm good at deal hunting. Plus there are a few guys here that really know quality products or can point you in the right direction.

rear fill is for people who only care how loud they are and don't care about sound quality

First..

styxnpicks thanks for the feedback trust me Ive seen your reply in many threads here in the forums about the front/rear speakers.

Impact9, Yeah I use to have 6.25 with the door plates in my front doors in my old truck. But its been 6 years since Ive delt with Stereo stuff and whats in and speakers sizes and brands. I'll probably fill the rear speakers but will spend most of the funds on the front with componets Im guessing. One of my sons sits in the middle rear so for now he can use the in dash DVD player. My other son is blind so as long as he can hear the sound hes good to go. But yes I do plan on installing a rear monitor for the youngest to watch movies when we move him to a end spot in the back. I planned on just running it from the output on the JVC reciever?

Im all for getting the best bang for the buck! Of course on a reliable site. I planned on going with http://etronics.com. They seem to have the cheapest prices and heard they ship pretty quick.

JVC KWAVX706 - $519.00
Alpine MRP-F450 - $199.99
Alpine MRP-M450 Class-D Mono Power Amplifier - $ 129.99
Already have a 10" Sub Pionner and box from Supercrewsound
Still researching for front speakers/ maybe components?
I may actually leave the stock rears in and spend most on the front. Depending on the brand I get and if they make a cheaper pair for the rear in the same brand.

nothinbutaford, let me ask this should I get a 2 channel amp if I leave the rear speakers in the truck or still hook up the Alpine MRP-F450 amp and even run the rear speakers through the amp but just have them turned down just enough to even out the sound if that makes since?

LOL you crack me up by the way Trust me I'm not worried about the rear passengers. Also barney sucks they like bob the builder. (grin) seriously Im not concerned on the sound for the kids. I'll be honest Im more worred about the Stereo sound then the DVD surround sound. Yeah I want DVDs to sound good but I'll be listening to more music on the radio and CDs then watching DVDs.

Thats why I'm also hoping the JVC KWAVX706 is not only good for the DVD picture but for sound as well. I havnt seen a lot of reviews on this reciever but the ones I did see were very good. And at the price its my max limit on buying the reciever alone!

Thanks Guys!!

I just went through the same thing your going through. I ended up putting 6.5 Polk db6500 components up front and some cheap Pioneer 3 ways in the back. I'm running the JL500/5 amp (100 watts front, 25 watts rear, 250 sub) I dont have a sub yet, but I can tell you my system sounds better with some rear fill. I've tried it both ways, and I keep turning the Pioneers back on in the back. The components rock though, strongly recommend. Cant wait for a sub, that might also change the way the rear speakers affect the SQ.

Sorry I messed up get 6.5" speakers.

I went with polk momo speakers in my sig and I don't regret it at all. I love these speakers. At first they sounded a bit bright on the highs but after a few days of loosening up they smoothed out and sound wonderful.

I bought them at www.millionbuy.com for nearly half the price of other websites. Another one of our members went through some issues with millionbuy on a RMA return. I figure any discount stereo website will give us the return hassles though.

When I was looking I couldnt tell much difference between the MMC6500 and the db6500 besides that the momos handled more power. Since I wasnt going to put more than a 100 watts to them anyway I went with the db's. Ive been using http://sonicelectronix.com for my stereo stuff. Good prices over all.
