Building a sub box

My speaker says it needs .25 cubic feet of space for a sealed box.....can i make the box smaller?? bigger?? does it matter??

by my calculations....the box I would be building and putting sub into is around .18 cubic feet...will this be ok??

You can build a box smaller or bigger than the manufactures specs. Is that .25 what they say is optimum or is that like the smallest they recommend? Personally, I woud not go smaller than .25, even if that is optimum. At .18 and with the sub displacement, you are talking a pretty small box. I would tend to lean toward the large side of .25. What sub are you using?

.25 is awefully small. thats 12" x 6" x 6" if im thinking correctly....

i would cross reference your sub specs on different websites, just to make sure they are accurate. And typically its better to be bigger then specs by a little bit, then be smaller...

It will work just do not know how good it will sound. Might be great. Small boxes sealed do require more power than bigger sealed boxes so, just keep that in mind.

oh 8" sub that makes more sense, for the small air space needed

if you are concerned with the space you may be able to go smaller by adding some polyfill in the box assuming that it will be ported. to trick the sub in to thinking that it is in a larger box. I've never built a box but just have heard from diff shops that it will work. My kicker L7 truck box has some in it from factory.

firedog is on it. You can use some polyfill. However, IF POSSIBLE, make it .25 cubic feet. You would be surprised how much louder, and how much better quality the audio will be, out of just matching a sub to a box of the right size.

Theres some charts available online that tell you how much polyfill to add. I'll see if I can find one for you.
