I need to get the rear door panels off so I can install new speaker wire, and was thinking of doing some acoustic dampening, if you will.

I never could figure out how to disconnect that rod that is connecting the door panel to the truck? I don't even know what its for?

Can anyone enlighten me how to disconnect this rod so I can safely remove the door panel completely, instead of having someone hold the panel for me?

 

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by rod. I didn't encounter anything like that when I took my door panel off? Could you maybe post a picture of it or something?

 

Are you talking about the door handle cable? Long black cable with a small wire on the end of it? If so, it just pops out at the white connector end and then the small wire just unhooks from its slot. Hope that makes sense.

 

That'd be it..wire, not rod.. Sorry, its been a year since I've opened it back up.

 

If I recally correctly, that is held on at the end of the cable and comes our cleanly without much force.

I am doing this from months old memory, but if I remember correctly there is sort of a ball at the end of the cable that slips out and disconnects.

It is sort of shaped like this -------O at the end.

I may be a bit off base, but I wanted to share what I thought might help.
