Question about facotry Stero wiring harness

I have a question about my stock wiring harness in my 97 f-150. I'm in the process of removing my stock speakers and putting in new ones and i dont know whether to use the stock wiring harness. i guess my real question is will running a bigger gauge wire help the sound quality of the speakers? i put new 6x8's in my doors today and i'll be putting in new rear speakers when i get back from vaction... and today i noticed that it would be a huge pain in the *** to run new wire threw my dash and into the door... :-S

i guess im asking any of you that have done this your self before and is it worth doing? or should i take it into a install shop to have it done?

Thanks a ton!
