Mounting your amp to the back wall

Ok, when mounting your amp to the backwall of the newer body style trucks it seems like some folks are mounting wood in there first and then screwing the amp to that, while others are mounting them directly to the wall with sheet metal screws.

2 questions - for the wood route - how are you attaching the wood to the wall?
for the sheet metal route - are you applying some kind of silicone to keep water out? How much room is there before you punch into the bed of your truck?

Just looking for the best route to mount the amp. Appreciate it.

I attached a piece of 3/4" MDF to the double wall section of the rear wall....I used wood because the mounting holes for the amp were farther apart than the area I had to mount to the sheet metal. Besides it isolates the amp a little bit. Here are some pics.

I managed to mount all 3 of mine right to the sheat metal. All of the screws lined up with the reinforced area so, I did not go thru to the outside.

I got it. The bars running across the back wall are braces that don't go to the outside. I'll mount the amp them if I can, and if not I'll mount wood to them and the amp to that. Awesome. I really appreciate it guys.

i just mounted mine to the sheet metal.. Even if you punch though the sheetmetal there is a good 2" gap inbetween the cab and bed.

How do you remove the upper part of the back seat on a SCREW?

I managed to mount both amps, two caps, one with dist block on the wall right to the sheet metal. Did have to move the BCM to under the drivers side "B" pillow. All of the screws lined up with the reinforced area and metal brackets at the bottom of the rear wall after redrilling the amp mounting holes. amps are out of warrenty, so no problem drilling a couple more holes in the mounting flange. nothing went thru to the outside.

drilled small pilot holes and used self tapping screws....
