Box plays too low

I built a box for my Ext. cab. I used a single Infinity Reference 1050W. The reason I went with the sub is because of the mounting depth. I built the box to their specs. .75cu. ft. On this sub they don't give you a range. So I assume .75 is it. On there Kapa series they say from .53-.98 cu. ft. The problem I have is it's playing way too low. It is a down firing enclosure. I like punchy bass. Is it just the nature of the downward firing box? Should I try making the enclosure a little smaller or go with the Kappa series one. I only have 5" of mounting depth to work with. I have it powered by a RF3002. I know this is cheap stuff. I am just looking for a little bass.
Thanks,
Craig

There are some pics in my gallery.

sounds like you didn't adjust the crossover right either that or your lacking in midbass. which isn't gonna be coming from a sub anyway

its either the sub itself or the x-over on the amp. see if its on low pass and at the lowest db offered. also, infinity isnt good for subs, theryre made for clearity not depth. ive got two jl w3s under my bench and they hit great

I am using the x-over on the head unit. Set at 100. I just want a little more punch instead of the deap stuff.

Thats plenty high, almost really too high for a 10" in the 1st place. Is it sealed or ported? What exactly are you listening to for music? Sounds like you need some more midbass not sub bass. I am guessing a downfiring sub is going to be a smoother setup sound wise. If you want it punchy fire the sub off the rear wall if you can. If you go smaller...you are going to lose efficiency but gain some punchy bass. I have heard the Infinity subs and they sound pretty clean...

I would suggest making the box smaller, its the easiest thing to do. You can simply put a couple of blocks of wood (or anything solid) in the box to see if it helps. Take out any polyfill if you used it, it will actually work against you in this situation. 100 hz seems a little high, I would try adjusting that lower to something like 80. I don't know if your confusing muddy with to low, and don't mean to offend you if you know, just trying to cover all the easy bases. Crossover adjustments can sometimes make a world of difference. Another thing to try is swapping the phase of the sub, in other words reverse the positive and negative wires going to the sub. It won't hurt it, but it may help the sub play in phase with your full range speakers. I would try these things first since they only cost you $0.00

if u go with a smaller sub, it will hit quicker because the cone does not travel as far as it would with a lets say 12 or 15". the deeper the bass u want the larger diameter sub u want. if u listen to rap or something like rage against the machine, has a good bass cord u want at least tens to hit the low notes with depth, if u listen to a lot of punk or fast paced rock go with mtx 8" or even jl.

the smaller the sub the quicker/more clear of a hit, the bigger the sub, the longer it takes to reach its note, but the deeper it will hit, 12s are perfect in everyway unless u want crazy insane bass.

your best bet its to go with a better sub, dont get me wrong the infinitys are nice and sound good, they just arent made for depth, theyre made for clarity. my two jl w3 10" are great in my box under my bench seat but i wish i could fit my old 12s

I cut my x-over down to 80 then 60. Sounds better at 80 then 60. It's kind of hard explaining with out listening to it. I was just wondering how much having the sub firing into the floor affects the way it sounds. I would like to get a better sub, but it has to have a mounting depth of 5" or less. The box is .75cu. ft.

your looking for midbass in the 120-150 range. your sub isnt going to do this the subs job is from 80 down

ckoerner do you have the punch eq pluged in and/or is it turned up at all? The freq that it is tuned to, or turns up, is 45 hz. If this is turned up at all it will affect how the rest of the freqs play. Did you try swapping the phase? Sometimes it makes no difference what so ever but sometimes, and usually with installs closer to the driver like a truck, it makes a big difference. If you can't easily get it figured out I would suggest talking to a shop that knows about tuning etc. to help you out. Like styxnpicks said you might be looking for something out of your subs that your fronts should be playing.

Bestntx I would suggest going to as big a box as the speaker is speced out for. Or at least try adding some polyfil to the box you have now. It will make the sub act like its in a larger box.

I do have the punch eq plugged in, but it's turned all the way down. I have tried reversing the phase and it did not seem to make any difference. Don't get me wrong it sounds good, but it seems a little too boomy on the bottom end. If I play bass cd's it sounds great, but if I play rock not so great. When I had the x-over set at 100 it was a little muddy at the top end. Set at 80 helped with that a lot. I guess I just need some good mid's. I might try the next sub up which is the Kapa series anyways. My box is the correct size for it. I knew from the beginning that I wasn't going to get much from a cheap 10" sub and amp. I just wanted to know how much firing the sub into the floor affected it.
