Porting question.

I dont know if "porting" is the correct term, but...

I have a 10" sub and a 1000W 2/1 channel AMP (both are Sony Xplod). The sub box is the correct dimensions, and I have it ported with the correct port "size" per the speaker instructions.

The BASS carries pretty good, but it sounds 10 times better with the passenger door open.

*sigh* I cant drive down the highway with the passenger door ajar. That would look pretty stupid, not to mention dangerous.

Any idea what I can do to increase the "air flow"?
Is it a bad idea to port the box in 2 places?

I wanted to add another 10 behind the passenger seat, but looks like that wont happen until I can get my specs right on the 10 I have now.

?

When you say "still sounds 10 times better with the door open" Im assuming you mean a little lower and louder. This is just the way it is with bass, especially in smaller cabins like your reg. cab.

Only way to recreate it somewhat is to open a window...Or rip off the passengers door. Id advise the use of seatbelts at all time if you go this route

Nothing you can do but crack a window.

Now, to your other questions, you can port a box in two different spots (two ports) but in your case its not going to do you any good.

Thanks Bartak.

It's weird too, cause I only notice the BASS get deeper and louder when I open the passenger door. I dont notice a change with the driver door open.

So would another 10 be a bad idea? I know it wont help me get the sound I get when I open the door, but I want the passenger to feel the thump like I feel. A few people have said another 10 would be a waste of cash.

Thanks again for your help.

Another 10 is not a bad idea-it will give you what you are looking for; Louder over all, plus with a sub right behind the passenger they will get to feel a nice little kick too.
Not a waste of money at all if its what you want.

Its only a waste of cash to get another one if you dont really like the sub you have now. Why get another of something you dont like? In that case I would ditch it and go with a nicer 10 or two. Thats totaly up to you though.

every vehicle does the same thing. roll down the windows or open the doors and you gain about 3 db's on the mic

Thanks.

Yeah, I'd like to get some better quality subs, but at the moment, they aren't the budget (kid coming real soon).

Thanks again for your help bartak. styxnpicks, you too.
