Doesn't look like they ship to the states either. I doubt you will find a UK store that will ship to the states.

At those power levels he will need marshmellows to go with those Polk's..

I have run MOMOS in several vehicles on personal installs, as well as installs for friends. My F150 has MMC650s in the front with a JL 450/4 on them, ie 150RMS to my fronts, and 75 to my rears (MOMO 6x8s). Absolutely NO issues with "overpowering" there.

I've also run a different setup with an Alpine amp and 175 RMS (Although, with actual voltage aco****ed for it probably fell to 150~ more often than not) and never had an issue there. I beat the HELL out of them.

I ALSO ran a JL 300/4 BI-AMPED on a single set of MOMO 6x9s "3 ways" (1 channel for the 2 tweeters, and 1 per midrange each speaker) and REALLY cranked them to keep up with my 3 JL 12w6v2s.... ran that setup over a year. NO issues there.

I also have a buddy who went 2 years on MOMOs with 175rms on his MOMOS.

So I really would have to say that if you had issues at 125rms, something was wrong in your install. Sorry...

MOMOs are notorious for LOVING lots of power...and doing very poorly w/o sufficient power. Maybe your 125 rms figure was overstated? Just a thought...

Bottom line...how do they sound though? What's your experience with other component sets? I've heard the momos and personally think the midbass sounds boxy and the highs were way to harsh.

BTW, Tims install was spot on...nothing wrong.

That's actually funny you say that because the reason I like the MOMOs so much was because they were NOT harsh. I've run some higher end MB Quarts, JLs, heard Diamonds extensively, best friend has Infinitys, and I have also heard several variations of directed stuff and I really like my MOMOS out of the bunch.

Also not a fan of kenwood at all.

I got fantastic midbass out of the momos too... I had no noticable holes in my range with my single set of momos and my 3 12s...which made me very happy.

As for the other guy claiming 125rms will cook MOMOs... sorry, but that's just not true. Not doubting him or his install, but I have literally had or installed systems that used MORe than that and 1-2 years later not one has had a single issue. So I just don't see how that would be possible.

I'm sure you of all people know that "to each his own" REALLY applies to audio... one guy might hear one set of speakers and "hear" one thing, and another set of ears could "hear" something entirely different. The range in hearing ABILITy and preference is massive... maybe MOMOs just aren't friendly to your ears? heh

But back to the original topic, I would take Rainbows over MOMOs if the price was the same. But one of the reason I like the MOMOs as much as I do is the value. They are CHEAP for what they are.

as far as my install, they where set DMM at 22.36 thats 125w all day long, any day of the week... amp will do 150w clean and 180w max... understated power is not a problem, may been just a bad set of speakers... on inspection after going up in smoke, a strip of solder about 2" long laying in the still smoking crossover when I pulled it out the door..but it was not touching anything, but who knows.. good quality control on Polks assem...

as to being bright, come on man, these tweeters are ear piercers from hell... not bad at 75w or so.. but at anything over 90w.. you will have to cut them..

as to power, that I grant will depend on what type of music you listen to, put AC/DC Hells Bells in and the driver start to bottom out at a 110w...

I had no problems with Polks with a Eclipse EA4000 at 75w x 4.... moved up to a XA5000, smoked emm... XA5000 is a top of the line amp designed by B&O for Eclipse... its no toy....

so on the set I had, my conclusion is Poor Quality Control on manufacturing and Overstated Power Rating on the MMC6500... if these speaker can take all this power, the drivers shouldn't be slapping before even reaching the rated power levels.. and this was with all GEQ and boost set flat....

anyway, I had my Polk experience and now i'm over it..

Time To Spit Out The Polk and Taste The Rainbow...
