i want to put a system in my 93 f150 reg cab behinde the bench seat but i am a taller guy and like the seat all the way back so the boxs dont really fit is there anyway to mod them or make them fit?

well i got these 2 truck boxs that are suppose to be able to fit behinde reg cab seats but i am a taller guy and need to have the seat all the way back so they really dont fit perfect i was wondering if anyone else had the same problum and moded the boxs or did something else to make them fit better

I had a standard cab S-10 pickup back in the day, and in order to be comfortable (I'm pretty tall too) I had to have the seat back as well. I managed to fit a JL 12W0 in a ported enclosure behind the seat, but had to sacrifice comfort to do it. Eventually I completely lost my mind and cut the whole back of the cab out and made a "walk-thru" for the 12 12" subs I put in the bed under a fiberglass cap. I had all the leg room I wanted then, but...

I guess what I'm saying, is the only things you can do, are to buy an extended cab truck, be uncomfortable, or give up on trying to put subs behind the seat.

Another option and probably the most "do-able" is to buy smaller subs that require less airspace, and therefore smaller enclosures. You can either go with a shallow-mount sub, or just smaller in diameter.

 

so should i find slimmer boxs or can i mod the ones i got like cut them in half

 

If you have a table saw that you can use (that way you can get pretty much a perfect cut), you could cut some of the back of the box off and slap a new back on it, should work. Glue/screw it and seal it up, and you should be good to go.

 

well took some measurements seems i need to cut the top on half from 5" to what ever the angle of my seat is i was thinking in half

 

Well, this is my personal opinion but you guys might agree. I think bucket seats are more comfortable and if you put bucket seats in you could make a downfiring box and possibly even 2 12s and if need be you can have someone sit on the box if it isnt too tall if you need the extra seat then you can have a good system and maybe more comfort depending on your own taste. its gonna take more money but in the end it would be worth it i think. Ohh and you could probably salvages some seats out of a 93 and the brackets too so it wont cost you too much

looked at the sig nice idea well i am about 6'1 and i am working with a reg cab f150 my idea is to cut the box down to the size i need and since i like ported i am going to cut a hole in the back so the mag on the sub can stick out since i think it is goin to be a thin box with a decint size 12" sub in it

 

a ported box is going to take up more room then a sealed. Maybe you can find an expy console, like 00-02, and mod the bottom to house a deep 10 or small 12.

But first I need to know what kind and size of speakers are in these "truck boxes."


See... you can't just go hacking the back off a sealed enclosure, and/or make the box smaller, and/or leave the magnet of the woofer sticking out the back?!

Well, you can make the box smaller, provided the manufacturer of the speakers gives you the specs on them, and those specs say it will work in whatever volume of box you're left with after you cut it down.

But seriously... whatever you've got will sound worse for sure if you don't do it right!
