Trying to build a budget system, I need some advice.

I’d like to go with a dual 10” set up under the rear seat. I don’t know much about anything that has to do with speakers so I wanted some advice.

This box comes with two Kicker CVR-10s, this is about my price range. The subs had good reviews on crutch field from people looking from a buargan standpoint.

I am also thinking about the Sony XPLOD 10” 330 watt RMS subs. Id like some advice on these subs or other subs in the same price range.

I also need an amp to power them, I’m thinking about a 600 watt RMS 2 channel sub. Is this about right? I want it to bump really good, but i dont want to blow stuff up. I was looking at the Sony XPLOD amps but I don’t really know the market. I’d really appreciate some bargain amp suggestions.

I’m probably going to go with a shaker 500 head unit from a mustang, I might upgrade from that later. As far as speakers and how to power them im a little lost. Would the head unit supply enough power to the front and back speakers to keep up with the subs? Will I need an amp for my speakers too? If so what kind of amp?

Any suggestions for inexpensive speakers? Should I go component or 2-way? What’s the difference anyway? I don’t even know what to look for.

Holy macaroni dude, you need to stop before you get completely messed up.
First off, asking for info. is very smart, not bothering to take the initiative to get yourself educated prior to planning/ purchasing/installing a system isn't.

There are countless hours of reading on this website alone concerning the subject. Spend the time to read up on it, and you'll be glad you did later.

One of the first things you'll learn is to remove the words bargain, inexpensive and cheap from your vocabulary when it comes to building a system. Cheap speakers and amps are exactly that. Save up a little more money for better equipment. Or start w/ an aftremarket high power HU.

Knowledge is power my friend, and if don't have the slightest clue on how to set up, look up or hook up components, don't bother. You'll only end up /w a mismatched, poor sounding system and an empty wallet.

Read and learn, then start building.

Well I don’t have time to learn as much about stereo equipment as id like. I’m a full time student and I work soooo…

I have been doing some reading and I think ill go with a set up like this.

That sub box in that first link I posted.
2 Polk MOMO 10" MM2104 subs (rated at 300W RMS)
POLK MOMO MMC6500 for the front speakers
POLK MOMO MMC650 for the rear speakers

It seems like a lot of people in my price range use all of the above components, and since their same brand I figure they will go good together.

I found a new box that has two separate sealed chambers with 0.635 Cu. Ft. per chamber. Polk recommends a sealed chamber with 0.66 Cubic ft. I’m thinking this box will do the job right? It’s only off by 0.025 Cubit feet off.
http://cgi.ebay.com/04-06-Ford-F-150...QQcmdZViewItem

*Edit* I just realized that sub box has a mounting depth of 5 ½ inches. And the MOMOs require 5 ¾ inches. I found another box that has a mount depth of 6” but it has .78 cubic ft of space on each side which is a bit above what’s recommended by Polk.

So should I buy the first one and modify it for another ¼” mounting depth, or sould I go with the one that has too much air space? The first one comes in black which is a plus.

So that leaves amps and a head unit, im thinking about tossing the shaker 500 idea because isn’t it basically the same as the audiophile system? I’m under the impression that the shaker doesn’t output 500 watts from the head unit right?

I figure ill buy a regular audiophile off of ebay until I can afford the Alpine w200.

I’m thinking a two amp set up is what I need. A two channel for the subs and a four channel for the speakers. An 800W RMS for the subs witch overrates the subs by 100W RMS. And a 4 Channel 400W RMS amp for the speakers.

What do you think?

Maybe you could suggest some amps that would complement this system. Or give me some brand recommendations.

You could go either way on the box...ASSUMING the first box doesnt have the back cut out (which it doesnt look like it does), and wood covers screwed to the back of it. This will increase your mounting depth by the thickness of the wood. If you click on the "System Help" thread posted by BestNTx, and go to the bottom of the first page, you will see what I am talking about. Bry posted up a pic of his box and you will notice the square peices of wood screwed on top.
Or, you could just buy the other box. Once you take out driver displacement, that is easily close enough to proper airspace...I dont think you would be able to tell a difference

Not sure on the HU; but I know the Shaker HU doesnt put out 500
watts...the shaker stereos have external amps.

At 800 watt amp will work for those subs, watch your gains though...
Not sure on a speaker amp, I have no idea what those speakers are rated at for power...
