System Help???

I am looking for a new sub-amp I currently have the punch stage 2 10" SVC subwoofer, and the punch 201s amp pushing it. I would like to put this amp back on my mid's and hi's and get a new sub an amp because my system just isn't as loud as I would like. Plus, I am very big on clarity. I went with the Punch P2 sub because it had a shallow mounting depth, I think my max mounting depth in my box is 5.25 or 5.75. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a new sub and amp combo I could get that would fit in that box and be around $300 or $400. I would really appreciate some help.

My (new) #1 choice for a shallow(er) mount sub, especially for an under the seat box for our trucks is the SI BM 10!!!!

The BM is the MAG's little brother!!!! And can be had for $240!!!

They have a mounting depth of 5.5" and are dual 4ohm. Are you running 2? If so, get an amp that can do 1200 watts (rms) @ 1 ohm. I can't think of one off the top of my head w/o doing a litte searching myself.

The website for them is www.stereointegrity.com, but for some reason I can't load up their website..,maybe it's down.

I got these specs off the link above:

Voice Coil Dual 4 ohm
Recommended Power 600 watts
Fs 27.1 Hz
Re (coils in series) 7.8
Le 3.4
Qms 3.08
Qes 0.31
Qts 0.29
Cms 204
Mms 101 g
Vas 52.5 liters
Sd 303 cm^2
BL 21.7
SPL 87.4 dB
Sealed 0.4 - 1 ft^3
Ported 1.5 ft^3 (36 Hz)

What box do you have??

Also, I tried sending you a PM as well (after receiving an email about a full inbox)...but disregard if this helps you.

I can't get the SI site to load...but I saw over on CA.com they have a mounting depth of 5.5".

If hes' running 2...Zapco won't work unless he gets a monster like me. I mean they will work, but their monos go down to 2ohms. If he does only one...a reference 500.1 would work fine.

How much do you have to spend? With one sub...my first choice would be a Zapco C2K 3.0...then a Zapco Reference 500.1. Both can be had for just over $300 on Ebay. If you can find a nice one...go for it. I've bought both of my 9.0s used! Alot of guys on here that have higher end stuff buy used.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Alpine MRD-M605. What do you think?

Yes, that would work. The older V12s were better build quality IMO though.

Bottom line...a watt is a watt. Amps are more subjective on their build quality, components & circuitry used, and features offered. This is why I like the Zapco C2Ks. They have the symbilink feature (a balanced line) that keeps the signal even cleaner (virtually no distortion) than unbalanced lines (RCAs). They also have a pre-clip feature...you set it and don't have to worry about clipping. Other stuff like a better damping factor and lower THD as well.

Look at it this way...Crotch Rockets...the Japanese pretty much have the market cornered on this. They make solid, strong, reliable and fast bikes. But, a Ducati or an Aprilila is just as fast, solid, strong and reliable, but they are Italian master pieces...works of art with a rich history to prove it. Make sense?

That alpine will work fine. No doubt about it. It’s a solid, reliable performer...I just prefer a work of art!!!!

I follow you completely bry, I would love to hear your system i'm sure it is a work of art, and very finely tuned. Consider me a "Starving artist on a budget" I think ill go with that sub you suggested (If it will fit) and the v12. The current mounting depth of my P2 is 5 3/8", is there anyway just incase i get it in and it doesnt fit by 1/8" that i can make it work. I dont know how safe it is to have the magnet pinned up against the box. Plus, in my box I stuffed it with pillow stuffing do you think this was a wise idea or no?

What box do you have? Is it a prefab box? Or is it one you made? Either way...you can get some extra mounting depth by cutting a hole in the top of the box and sealing a MDF plate on top of the hole. I did this with mine. I have very limited clearance on my box...it was the only way I could get my MAGs to fit.

thats a really nice amp. pretty much one of hte best products out there you are going to get for your budget; its reliable, high powered, and easy to use. i assure you, all ohm loads and installer variation aside, you will be satisfied with that amp

Its a prefab Ill try and get some pics posted asap. Where would i get an MDF plate(do i make it myself?) and how exactly is it mounted? How much extra mounting depth could i get with this plate?

First you need to see if it already has the extra mounting depth (plates) on it. If it does, it might not work. Just go to Home Depot and get some scrap MDF (3/4") for a couple of bucks and a small tube of heavy duty liquid nails. Cut out the hole and screw it on top with the liquid nails (generously). Also, put a bead of on the inside where the plates meet the top baffle.

It will give you an extra 5/8" (if that's what your box is made of).

See how I did it on my box?:
