Audiophile question

Hey all. I am thinking of installing an aftermarket cd player in the 04 F150 and it has the amp and sub behind seat. The people who will be doing the install job say that if I want to run the same sub setup then they have to cut wires and add wires and all that jazz. I also heard from another guy who said there is a wiring harness that takes care of this problem. Is the first guy just trying to sell me a new amp and speaker? I called the second place back and they renigged on what they said the first time. What gives? I know I"m not the only one who has had this problem. Am I just in an area with idiot installers??? This is why I research this crap before jumpin in with both feet. Also why this website is the best.. Thanks for any feedback.

Hi. If you want to add an aftermarket deck and run stock speakers and sub, there really ISN'T a harness that will just Plug 'n' Play from the new head-unit. You can hook up the door speakers easy enough, but the amp/sub combo is a different story. It's got it's own seperate plug(s) on the back of the stock deck and the wires that it uses are a mystery to everyone but the engineers who designed it. Oh, and the really crazy **** is, that the wires aren't even the same color at the back of the deck as the ones going into the amp! In order to hook it up to an aftermarket deck, you'll need someone who's really good with a digital multimeter to trace the wires for you. I'd say that the installers you talked to are capable of doing this, and this is what they were referring to when they said they needed to cut wires and add wires (because they do).

Hope this helps!

Can I then just add a new amp and sub to the same box or is that more of a pain than it is worth?

Out of what you just said, the CHEAPEST part of the whole deal is the box!

If you're thinking of doing that... you might as well do the whole enchilada!

Seriously, If you're getting the deck an amp AND the sub, you can get a pre-fab box off the internet for very little dough.

I'm assuming you have a Reg. Cab since you said "behind the seat."

Here are some manufacturers of pre-fab subwoofer enclosures designed to fit your truck:

This one is for an '03, but it might work...

Also only '03, but again, might work...

Hope this gives you some ideas...
