Subs and box question?

Hey,

Well I've been looking around for either some Alpine type R or S, or a some Kicker's.. But in my truck I would have to get a custom box, plus a seat lift.. I found a pr. of Pyramid 10's with a box and everything and it's only $120.. I've never heard of this brand, but they don't sound to bad.. Plus my dad already has an amp that he was gonna put in his truck, but he hasn't done nothing yet. So I might be able to use his amp.. Does anyone know anything about these?? I wanna stay in the lower prices right now because we're strapped on money, so maybe I could get the better ones in the future..

Here's the link to it, and lemme know what you guys think!

Pyramid is the bottom of the barrel in regards to aftermarket car audio. The kind of stuff you might see at a flea market. Save your dough for better quality gear is my advice.

Alright, thanks man.. Like I said, I've never heard of them, so I didn't know if they would be any good or not.. Anyway, that's all I needed to know!

Whats going on?
You are strapped for cash and don't want to exceed your set budget which is the responsible thing to do. So like you said, find something for now that will keep you content and upgrade when the $$$ situation changes.

Well, I don't exactly have a budget, but I can't go spend mega bucks on a sound system.. Like I said, I can't spend to much money on anything right now, but I don't spend $120 on that when it isn't really any good..
But what do you guys recommend?? I found a pr. of Kicker Comp 10's for like $90 something shipped on eBay, or I can get 1 Alpine type S 10 for around $100 or so.. Which would be the better choice?? The Kicker's are only a 600w pr. though.. So idk.. Any experience with Sony Xplods??
I don't know alot about sound systems, so that's why I'm askin' abunch of questions..

check out http://edesignaudio.com , go to their forum. i think they still have a group buy on their 11KV.2 10" woofers. somewhere around 65 a piece.

do not buy the kicker comps they sound liek crap and need large enclosures. the type S also needs a relatively large enclosure and is ridiculously deep (good woofer though). the KV2 will be easier to work wtih as it thrives in a small environment and is moderately shallow

Thanks for the replies!
I checked out that link you gave me, but I couldn't find what you was talking about.. But I probably wont be able to get anything for alittle while, I'm just trying to get some ideas on what's good and what's not good before I go buy something..
So since the Alpine is kinda the same way as the Kicker, do you think the Xplods will sound any good? I've heard some say good, but I've heard alot of people say they arn't very good.. I've heard them in 2 friends' trucks, in one he had a 1000w amp with 2 Xplods, and it sounded ok, but I think the bass wasn't turned up very high, and the other one had the same setup and it sounded pretty good.. So idk what to do..
Or what about Lightning Audio?? They any good??

no man ide stay away from lightning also. Like socal said your best off with the 11k's from edesigns, cheap but they sound great and thrive in small enclosures. Defainetly the best bang for your buck. btw my friends got a lake house in chico.

Here's the link you are looking for. The group buy is now a standard for members. Can't beat the deals they have. Got my 2 10's for $65 each. They also come with a 3 year warranty.

Thanks for the help!
I think I'm gonna start looking into the Edesigns subs.. That's what ya'll say are really good, so I think I might get those.. But the only thing is I don't have $130 right now, and I figure there's a deadline on them.. Does anyone know if there is? I looked but didn't see anything on it..
Now I saw they made boxes also, I was looking at the Dual 10" .5cF Sealed Enclosure which was only $85 and it would fit behind the seat perfectly.. Now is the vented box better? I just thought about this one for the price.. And on the 11Kv.2 sub, it says the RMS is 250-500.. Does anyone know the peak power on this??

Jwool15, that's cool your friends bought a lake house in Chico!
And Ex4me, are you the guy off of Quadzone??

Yes, I'm the guy off of Quadzone & AtvNC.com. Sold my quad earlier this year & I'm now regretting it. Oh well, I'm sure I'll have another later. As for the sale, there's no deadline on it. Just become a member & register for free & you get the deal. I'm running 2 of the 11Kv.4 subs in a sealed enclosure. I've got them pair up to one of the new Rockford Fosgate Punch 150 25 to Life series. Should be getting around 900 something watts to the subs. I think it's like 230 or 240 something for each voice coil that they should be receiving. So far so good. Don't really know what to tell you about the vented enclosure except for they are probably around 3db louder. Like they say, there is no such thing as a perfect box. You just need to use whatever suites your taste.

I have not found any way to put type R's in our trucks yets but I will tell you those subs kick a$$. I would love to find a way to get them in our truck but they are just soo tall that even with a seat lift couldnt fit. They blew my rockford P3 out of the water, same box same amp same car, and I am not even big on alpine I am a rockford man but they made me rethink what I buy. Also I went with ED 10's for my system in my truck hope they sound allright.

Audiobahn

I have a nice pair of 10" Audiobahn subs that seemed to work just fine in a tight enclosure. They are 800W and don't have a real deep mounting depth requirement.
