Polly Fill Question ??
PolyFill Question ??
As you see I built my own box... .504 SQF, ED 11Kv.2 D2 10" displaces .07 SQF, I called ED and they said no polyfill should be used...
My question is if I put the 8oz in, base on 16oz for 1.0 SQF, what affect will that have on the sound quality.. the sub sounds great, just don't have that real punchy sharp bass that I would like to have... it needs something, maybe more power (running at 175W RMS now) it may even sound better after I throw these Infinity 6812 out the door...
I think I'm going with Polk MOMO 6.5 components
anyway, what do you guys think??

Well im not sure about the polyfill but if your running 175watts rms to it and it can handle 300rms then that extra power will give you the bass you are looking for most likely... I had my 2 10's hooked up to my 100rms x 2 hifonics amp (just for fun) and at low volumes, (real low) the lack of power is not noticeable but when you turn it up a little it sounded like crap. A stronger amp will give you a noticeable difference.
I got the polk momo 6.5's for the door. You should be pleased...

got mmc6500 for the front and mmc650 for the back...
it may just be these Infinity 6812 killing to sound, they sounded real good on HU power, but with 75Wx4 of clean power, they sound like Sh$t... no midbass what so ever....ALL TWEETER.... I mean ear piercing tweeter....
Ive never uses poly fill.
But if your curious, just buy a bag and stick some in there. Its cheap and wont take 10 minutes to pull out the sub and stick some 'fill in there. If you dont like it, just pull it out. Only takes a couple minutes and about 5 bucks.

ED said its not needed and I built the box to there Ideal specs, it sealed real good... if I carefully push the cone in and hold for a minite, it take about 15-20 second to rebound..not 100 seal, but darn close..!!!
I thing it might just be me.. I'm so much hating the way these Infinitys sound, basicly they are blowing, one starting to rattle now and the more I play them the worst they sound...
sub sounded great when I first installed, now I'm thinking the sub not sounding right either, it probably not the sub... probably just these door speaker degrading by the minite..
sub may blend well with some real speakers.... BTW, would love to check out the Rainbows, but have a hard time bringing myself to buy speaker I can't hear first...
thanks for the input guys...

Adding polyfill will make the sub act like its in a larger box than it is. This will give you more bottom end response, exactly what your not looking for. Placing a block of wood in the box will take away some of the volume and take away so of the bottom end which might help some. Front speakers and their ability to play low end will help you situation more. Getting them to couple with the sub will give you better overall response and some of that tight snap your looking for. Some things you can do initially and at no cost is:
1-try swapping the phase on the sub, in other words swap the positive and negative wires on the sub making it play backwards. This will cause no damage to the sub or the amp, neither know any better.
2-try adjusting the crossover point on the fronts a little lower, be careful not to overdrive them and cause them to bottom out, this will damage the voice coil. To be sure shut off the sub and listen to the fronts for that. Try lowering the crossover setting on the sub, this may sound opposite for what you are trying to do, but if the sub xover is set to high it may sound boomy and loose.
3-the block of wood in the box might help but check with ED for volume to make sure you don't go too far in that direction.
Let us know how you make out and where the settings are at best response before you spend any money

Im sure they do. Im no expert on poly fill, but they say there are guidlines to stick to. For example, in the first post he say 16oz/1 cubic foot. Im assuming he has studied this and found this number a couple of times. I would stick to guidlines like this, give or take a little.
Someone else who has some more knowledge on polyfill should chime in. Im not your go-to guy for that stuff. I just speak the very little that I know of it
