sub boxes

I have a 97 ex.cab F150.. I have two 10in. subs in boxes i made under the back seat, But what i want too know is it better for them to fire down, or up? What way will give me the best sound? And also the boxes are not verry big, so is it better for them to be sealed or ported? thanks

I depends upon the sub and what you hope to accomplish. But in my truck the answer is sealed down.

if the box isn't big then sealed would be better, its hard to make a ported box for trucks and make it sound nice w/o alot of room. Downfiring gives you a better "thump" for rap and hip hop, I suggest that you put them downfiring and bolt the box so that they can't steal your box or even rip your subs by poking it with a screwdriver.

Because of the fact that you cannot fit a big enough box in these trucks, make the box sealed. Mine is sealed and the subs fire up. Also, don't worry about bolting the subs down. There is NO way that anybody will be able to get the subs out, short of taking out the back seat. Check out my gallery for pics.

I have never heard of a down fire in a reg cab. How much does the box cost?

Depends on the shops around you and what you want it made out of, but I'd say $150 - 300

A ported enclosure needs a LOT of space, and because you have a reg cab, you don't have the space necessary. Go with a sealed box, and get a BIG amp, because you will have a small box, and you need lots of power to get it to sound good.

Local store told me they could do a custom ported. Would a downfire be good in a reg. cab?

You wouldn't have enough room for two subs in a ported box.

Im goin the same route, which diamonds do you have? I'm gonna buy the d6's and a kicker 1250.1 amp, and my neighbor and i are going to build a custom box for it. Ive got a screw though so box design is limited and it probably not going to be ported.
