JL or Memphis Audio?

The guys at the shop are trying their hardest to get me to go with the Memphis Audio Speakers & amplifiers instead of JL. They are wanting to go with 1 10" M1 subwoofer in a ProBox rocks box along with the 16-MCD500 amp on the sub. I've listened to them & they don't sound too bad. Their is a big price difference between the Memphis Audio & JL Audio. I know, ya get what you pay for but the Memphis isn't exactly cheap either. What do you guys think? Anyone have one of these Pro Box boxes? I looked at it & it looked to be pretty darn sturdy. Outside of box looks like it was sprayed with rhino liner or something. http://www.proboxrocks.com/ford/04upf150supercrew.shtml

Here's a pic of the box.

I have a 10W0 under the drivers side rear seat. I pd about $115 for the sub and made the box myself. I have always loved JL and have never had any issues with them. JL over Memphis in my book.

Comparing the two brands mentioned, I say go for the JL "Slash" Series because of its power supply.

Well, I kinda strayed from the plan a little. I'm still going with the JL XR570CSi up front when they get here. Right now I have the JBL P8652's in the front doors running off the Alpine head unit. The JL's should be here by the end of the week. Got a killer deal on one of the new Rockford 25 ta Life series. It's a Punch 75. I'm gonna use it to power the JL's & maybe the rear JBL's. Might just use the head unit power for the rear JBL's though for my rear fill. I'm still undecided on the sub amp & what subs to run. I was seriously thinking of running a set of 10" Image Dynamics.

You will never be sorry you bought that amp. If you got a killer deal, get your hands on as many as possible.

Got it for like $248 shipped & with a 1 year extended replacement warranty. I thought about just going ahead & getting the Punch 150 also for $309. Just hate to buy the 150 yet not knowing which subs I'm going to be running.

I own a 97 F150 4x4 reg. cab, I have 4 memphis 6x9s, 2 memphis 10 inch subs and 2 memphis amps 250 watts each. They will rock, and they have a great warranty with all there speakers and subs. Lifetime warranty on all there speakers other than subs, and a 3 year warranty with the subs. It is hard to beat that! I have previously owed quiet a few different systems from Rockford, Clarion, Kicker, and these memphis blow them out of the water.

Those amps are so good. It brings back some great memories for me. Circa 1987, my first really good system was amped by a RF Punch 150, 75, and 45. I wouldn't mind having some of the new ones myself. They may be better than the originals. Some of their new stuff is awesome. It's great to see RF make a comeback of sorts, at least in the eyes of us oldtimers who remember the early days of 1971 or so, when 8 track tape players mounted under the dash were the thing.

I used to have one of the RF Punch 45 some time ago & that little thing would rock to be such a small amp. You remember the 8 track tapes with the adapters on them so you could play a cassette? Man, that stuff brings back some memories. I remember seeing AC/DC for the first time on my brothers 8 track of Highway to Hell.

Around 1971, my very first "system", if you could call it that, was an 8 track player(Motorola, I think) and some Kraco "wedge" speakers in the rear package shelf of a 1961 Chevy Impala that my dad let me drive to school. I later "improved" that set-up by adding what was called an equalizer/booster. I remember cruising the streets of Circleville, Ohio with my windows down thinking I was so cool. Man, you talk about ear splitting distortion. It was shortly after that that car audio began to make the move toward dedicated amps and such. Companies like Jensen(yes, they were good at one time), Pyle(yes it was good also), Fujitsu Ten(before it was called Eclipse), Fosgate(before Rockford), Linear Power, and others, began to make some nicer gear. Then along came the '80s and '90s, and WOW, the **** was great from PPI, RF, MTX, LP, a/d/s, Orion, USAmps, Zed, which made Hifonics, Rodek, Autotek, Nakamichi, Cadence, ESX, Crunch, Lanzar, and others, all of which were very high end. It's great to see RF step back in time.

If you had yourself a pair of Jensen Triaxial 6 x 9 and a Kraco eq/booster, you were set. Hit that button on the booster and it was pure excitement. I do remember those days. Heck, you could get a 500 watt booster in a half din sized unit.

Well, I bit the bullet today & ordered 2 Elemental Designs 11Kv.4 subs. Sure hope they sound good. Now, I've got to decide on whether to get the Punch 150 or another Punch 75. Got 2 subs for $147 shipped. Not a bad deal if ya ask me for brand new. Got my Punch 75 today also.
