Lightbulb Newbie has lots of audio ?'s

This is my first post and I joined the board becasue I am a total noob when it comes to audio systems. I have never ever had anything other than the factory head unit and speakers. I just had a Pioneer 50x4 cd player installed (I got jammed on the install fees since I did not have the confidence to install it myself). For speakers I want to get the best I can but I cant figure out what the heck to get. I am looking for a pretty decent system for up to $400.

- I want 6.5 components but my understanding is that alterations have to be made to the doors. How is that done? Is it really hard, especially for someone like me with no experience? I love my truck and I don't want to mess it up.
- Is an amp needed? I don't have one right now and I don't know if it is a must or just a nice option.
- Is there a noticable difference in 5.25 component systems and 6.5?
- Is that circular area on the front door panel meant for a tweeter?
- Will I be able to get any bass at all? I cant really afford an additional 5 or 6 hundred dollars for an amp, custom box, installation and a sub.
- I was told my options for a sub under the back bench are 8" or 10". Is that true?
- Where can I learn about audio systems? I can't decide on speakers because I dont know about frequencies and ohms and all of that other "techie" stuff. I also can't install anything because I have no idea where to begin.

I am in Houston so if anyone knows of a reputable place to buy audio stuff then let me know. Thanks for your help.

If you do not want to mod your truck, look at 5.25" components.

If you are not adding or using an amp, I would suggest looking at some good coaxials.

There is a difference in 5.25 and 6.5. Would you be able to tell? Maybe not in the proper install.

A tweeter does fit in the opening above the mid speaker. It may have to be modified depending on the tweeter.

Your bass will be limited with only front speakers and no amp. To achieve any real bass, you will need a sub and amp.

Under the seat without any seat mods, you can fit some 10's and probably most 8's.

There is a wealth of info on this forum and many other car audio specific forums. You can do a web search for car audio forums and read till your hearts content.

Everyone has to start somewhere. If you are leary of learning on your truck, I would highly recommend finding a good shop to do the work for you. It will cost you more but, it should be done right and you do not have to worry about it.
