Considering some new speakers

I was considering some new speakers for my 04 SCrew. I know a lot of people are high on the Pioneer 6880s, but for $100 more I was considering the Infinity Reference 6810cs for the front and the 6812cf for the rear. Anyone have any experience with those?

Was also considering the Boston Acoustics S85s all the way around ($119/pr). I'm a big fan of Boston home speakers, but I'm not sure how their auto speakers are.

If your planning on running them off of your head unit for power, i would suggest polk db570s and alpine type r 5x7s. If you plan on buying an amp, I would suggest a set of components up front and leave your stock speakers in the back.

I would steer away from infinity unless you are going to get the Kappa series. I had the reference components and they sound horrible compared to the Polk speakers. I was interested in the BA speakers as well but ended up finding a great deal on the Polk speakers.

Interesting advice. Most reviews I read after your recommendations include pairing the Polk speakers (rear) with the Infinity 6812 (front). Most say the bass is high in the Polks but highs are lacking, while the opposite is true for the Infinity set. The reviews I read on the Alpines were not good however

Thanks for the info...

I had the round components (reference). At first i thought they were great b/c they sounded alot better than stock. But then they just sounded like they had way to much highs. Maybe i should have played with the crossovers a little more but i could never get them how i would have liked. On the other hand these polk 's have the tweeter settings on the crossover to let you adjust the output of the tweets. Also i can still play with the crossovers. The polks sound great. I put together a home theatre system over Christmas with Polk speakers and it sounds great as well. The Infinity's were supposed to be on the same level but again even the Home speakers had too much highs. Hope this advice helps. If i remember right Circuit City has the infinity's and the Polk db's on display. I would see if you could go compare them before you make a decision. Either way they will be better than stock.

speaker size

Has anyone tried putting 6 1/2 component speakers in a 05' supercab? I recently put some in my boy's 97'. I intended to put them in the front doors with coax's in the rear. I had to swap them though because of mounting depth (wouldn't clear window sliding down) and hole size. I still had to cut a little metal in the third door to fit the 6 1/2's.

I wanted to put the same component speakers in my 05' because they sound great and great price (check out www.cadencesound.com ), but I don't want to cut any metal. Crutchfield says only 5 1/4's will fit. Anyone?

By the way, I have the XL model (rear window's do not slide down) so the window won't be in the way.

The mids need a 3" mounting depth. I don't think they'll fit in the front. I'm guessing I will have to put them in the rear. Where did you mount your crossovers? I may have to put mids in the front kick plates if there is room there. Anyone know?

Depth wise mine fit fine. I put the crossovers behind the kick plates. If i need to adjust them it only takes about 2 minutes to pull them out and adjust.
