EBAY systems
I was looking at some subs and amps on EBAY and I just had one question for you guys. Do you guys trust these deals? and another thing, I'm new to the sound system world so help me out, I want to get two 10's and an amp, but what should I look for in subs and in an amp. What do you guys recommend for the watts for the amps and the watts for the amp. Please I'm getting a system for christmas, and I don't know what I'm doing.
one more question
Could you put any amp together with any subs? I was looking on ebay and found the 1000 watt sony xplod amp and two 10 inch sony xplod 1200 watts subs. Will that sound good, cuz it sure looks good. I don't know about the little details but will those two be able to function together?
Just because it looks appealing doesn't mean it will sound good. I would not go with sony. It depends on how much you want to spend on each part, as far as reccomending stuff since there is so car audio stuff out there. Also, you'll need a box, amp kit, wires, etc..

What is your budget for everything? By everything I mean subs, amp, box, and wiring?
Also, what kind of pickup do you have (extended cab, reg cab) and what year.
Let us know and we can give you some ideas.
I would skip on the Sony stuff. Back when Sony had some good stuff, now days it's not anything I would want to own.
Also, do you want all new stuff, or would you go for something used off ebay?
To give you a comparision on product/price, Cats00 told you about the 2 12" mtx's with a box and amp for 400 bucks. I got 2 brand new subs, and a used amp for 400 that would walk all over that combo, and made a box for 25ish bucks. Im not trying to bash MTX here, just saying that if you look around, and know what to look for (we can help with that since you stated you dont know a whole lot yet), you can find some sweet deals, and have a VERY nice sub/amp setup when you think about what you have, and what you spent to get it.

I would agree with Bartak, as far as looking around and getting a good deal. I am ordering the rest of my system tommorow, and my whole system runs about 1000 bucks for the h/u, sub amp, 12 , 2 channel amp, AA comps. Ordering from internet companies, may save you some money and these companies have great support, but they are fairly busy constantly. Best Buy usually isn't the best place for car audio, i'd rather go to a Hifi Buys, but for a tight budget ebay/ online deals are the cheapest.
I have had many audio systems in my trucks over the past 7 years and have had some problems with a few brands. Bear with me it may be of interest.
The sony amps I had one blow and the other burned the resistor that gives it gradual start ups(when you change radio stations or turn it on it would send a blast of power to the subs-THUMP!)
an Mtx amp did the same that the later sony did
infinity reference subs only lasted 4 months, blown
MtX aluminum cone subs, centers came un glued and rattled like crazy
Pioneer head units, the only ones that I owned that never had a problem
Alpine subs, very good for the $$, never had a problem with them either.
Rockfordfosquate amps, very good, some what pricy compared to the sony, but well worth the extra money.
The watt output is not always the most important, the infinity subs that I blew were rated at over 1000 watts peak each. The sony amps that were powering them were only putting out 150 watts bridged(one amp for each sub)
you want to but an amp that max output is close to the subs moninal power, so when the bass is hitting hard you are not in danger of blowing speakers all the time, and most importanly, don't use the gain on the amp as a volume ****. As you turn the gain up the speakers are going to start to distort and you may not hear it but it will blow the subs, distortion has probably blown more speakers that not haveing the wattages the same.
Just my $.02, I am not an expert by any means, just my experiances over the past few years.
Buy your next ruck with the best factory stereo and just leave it alone.

Ga Foo, what are you going to be using for a comp amp? I still have this Rockford 301S that Ive been wanting to trade off. Nice little amp and all, but I want something better
Once I get these AA comps that RF is coming out for a Diamond D5300.2............or maybe a D5600.2. Mwahahahaha.
All Diamond D5 amps, and all AA speakers. Gonna kick azz. Then all I need to do is finish things that Ive needed to finish for like a year lol, (amp rack, make wiring nice and tidy, finish box, doors, etc) and its gonna be cool. Oh yeah, I can feel it. Im dancing now...........yeahhhhh....
