Sub box/woofer recommendations...

Hi all,

I just bought a used 04' F150 scab and was hoping to put my system in it from my previous 97' silverado ext. cab. I've been searching all the posts about sub boxes and such. The box with the largest mounting depth I can find is 6" for two 10's.(ebay box). My infinity kappa subs require 6.06" of mounting depth. could I use a trim ring on the front to gain my .06" inches? I would assume to that I dont want the magnet resting against the inside back of the box.

However, when I look under the back drivers side seat, it does not look like a 6" box coudl fit under there but thats what the ad claims. Does anyone know how much space is under there height wise? and would an extra trim ring put me over the top on space?

Any suggestions would be appreciated?

One more question, if I have to buy shallower subs what does everyone recommend?

I will put the other side of the spectrum. I was not pleased with my Musicmoose box for my 05 SuperCrew and went with a Q logic. For me, it was a huge difference.

My complaint with the Musicmoose box was that with the sub installed, there was not enough gap under the box. The subs surround sat right on the carpet. I tried putting a grill on it but, that still effected the sound. You could actually hear the sub rubbing the grill or flapping the carpet. Did you want pics of the Q logic?

I had the same problem with my musicmoose but I bought a heavier woofer grill and it cured the problem.... $20 fix. Sounds excellent now.

JL Audio makes a stealthbox with matching carpet color with a 10 Inch sub down firing. Its not plastic or wood but fiberglass to maximize airspace for the area under the seat. I have one, and sounds excellent in my opinion. You can check my gallery for pictures.

I had a custom box made by supercrewsound.com, I had them add 1 1/4" to the height (for added mounting depth and box volume) and 1 1/4" to the clearance for the sub's excursion. With this box I will be adding the LMI 2 1/2" rear seat lift to accomodate the box. I will be putting in 2 TREO SSi10.22 subs in it powered by a Viper d2500.1 (in the middle of the install right now). When my install is complete, I will add pics to my gallery and post it's performance.

For sub recommendations, of course I recommend TREO SSi10. They have a relatively shallow mounting depth and will fit in any of the Ebay style prefab boxes. They are rated at 750 rms and according to the company (I forget the guy's name I spoke with) were developed to compete with JL's W7 line.

I listen to them briefly at a local shop and was impressed. I had a 12W7 and a 10W7 in my last truck (not at the same time).

If you decide not to go with a customized box, I would go with JL's stealthbox. The only downfall is you are pretty much limited to their sub which is a 10W3v2 unless you can find another sub that will fit. By then you could have paid for a custom box and really good sub(s).

brypink2--I have heard some treo line has fairly impressivee SPL, how much air space is in that box? Is that full 2500.1 goin into those two subs, at 1 ohm or what?

squint--You will propablly have to use different subs to make them fit, unless you get a custom box. MDF rings would propablly slam the surround into the carpet, at full excursion, which wouldn't be good. I would say just keep your subs, and get a seat lift and a box made for use with a seat lift.

Their CSX line (which is their competition line) was designed for SPL. This box is approximatley .80 ft^3 per sub, which isnt quite ideal but will definately work (according to TREO's tech support). I might even try some polyfil to see how it sounds with that. The Viper d2500.1 is stable down to 2 ohms and thats what my subs will be wired for at a final impedance. So, I should have plenty of head room.

Sorry, i edited my original post, as it was confusing. Honestly that much airspace might be fine, some subs do fine with that amount of airspace, if i recall the re xxx's like small sealed enclosures,

Hi, I have a infinity 10" sub I'm looking to put into a 02 screw and am looking at building my own box. Is down fire the only way you can make them fit? I was thinking of putting the sub at a angle will that work ? I have never built a or herd a down fire box, is the sound better?
