10s or 12s
10s or 12s
what would be better under the back seat of my ext. cab f-150. one guy told me he would put two 12's under there and another guy told me that two 10's would sound way better because there would be more air space or something .. what do you guy think i should get....Thanks
Thats one he!! of a broad a$$ question.
Whats your budget, how much airspace do you have, how much mounting depth, what kind/model of subs are you looking at, etc, etc. There are so many things you need to look at before you can decide on something like that.
Your going to get 10's in there easier than 12's though.

well i was just asking because i went too two differnt stereo shops, and one guy told me he could put two 12's under my back seat. And another guy ttold me that two 10's would sound way better..What does he mean by air space, would'ent 12's be better then 10's any way you look at it.....
imho go with 10s, something with dual voice coils. i tucked 2 12s in my standard cab xtreme and from time to time regret it because they are not "breathing" properly enough to hit some of the lower bass they should because of cramped conditions. give them proper amts of air and juice, will make for a better experience.
Rolling on 38's...
Anybody who says they can stick 1 or 2 12's under a bench seat in our trucks is only bragging, and not being realistic, sure it could be done, with a seat lift, thin box material...but yeah, you loose tons of necessary box volume required for MOST 12" subs. IF you did it you wouldn't be happy with it for long. Maybe if you had a different vehicle, than I would say differently.
Remember you are asking for advise. This is all my opinion is... after all it's your wallet.
GaFoo and Bartak give good advise, and know their stuff as well.

Most of the 12 setups I've seen in the f150's are behind the seat. Very few 12's operate in limited box space. Some JL versions are designed like that (my 15w1 is rated for 1.5 c.ft. sealed). One 12 would probably be more practical if you're insisting on a 12 sound. There's a lot of 10's out there these days that will give just as good of bass in pairs as one 12 and you can wire them up to a lower ohm load for a good strong amp.
You'd have good bass, but really crappy high's and mids. What year truck do you have? I've got some decent coaxial and triaxial replacements for a 2001-2003 Supercrew or possibly the other cab configurations that I just took out to put in components. Not sure if they fit in the new body style though. They're in the classifieds. Let me know if you're interested.

Don't give up hope yet, I just bought a Pioneer 12 that is shallow mount. Only 3.5". And the box only requires .6-1 cubic foot. It should be perfect for my application. I'm on a budget so the price was right at $100.00.
If you dont mind the price, a JL Stealth Box with one 10 is what you need. Dont mean to sound one sided, but I have heard 2 10 inch subs(not JL) and they dont come close to producing the bass that the Stealthbox does. Everyone thinks I have 2 12 inch subs.

As do you buddy
Anyway, Im ticked now. I just wrote a pretty long post and due to my *&@$! dial-up, I lost it.
To sum it up-
Dufunnel's speakers will fit in your truck no problem.
I did a lil figuring and those Pioneer shallow mounts will JUST squeeze under your seat, assuming you use 5/8ths MDF (and dont want to lift the back seat). Brace that box good though, otherwise it will flex like crazy.
I just realized, for some reason this whole time I was thinking you didnt want to lift your back seat. Hmm. If you do lift it you could use 3/4 MDF then.
I cant comment on the performance of the Pioneer shallow mounts though, Ive never had any experience with them.
JL stealthbox is another good idea. Pricey though.
Some dood on here, or on cardomain had 4 of the shallow mount pioneers tucked in a super crew. I dont know how, unless he was feeding them like 2 to 3 times the reccomeded power, because that box would have been tiny, unless there was more to than i could see, because i only saw the face of the box where the 4 12s were mounted.
