Question Factory Sub Wiring

Has anybody thought of or actually done this? Can you usethe factory wiring running to the audiophile subwoofer (that has an amplifier attached) and use the existing wires to install an after market amp? Just wondering because the installation on amp seems to cost almost as much as the amp itself and it wastes time not having your truck. If I could use the existing wires, installation would be easy. Let me know what y'all think...

Instructions would be awesome if someone has them.

Thank You

Rick

Any luck?

Did you end up using the existing Audiophile sub wires to connect an aftermarket amp? Wondering because I am going to try the same thing. If you had success doing this, could you let me know what wires to tap into?

Thanks.

splinter002.......i was reading on another thread on this subject that someone else had the same problem and followed the wires from the harness from the head unit connector down to the drivers side kick panel and they ended there. other people have found the amp connector under the rear seat but no head unit connector????? kinda strange they would install just a part of the harness.

I thought of this as well, the hardest part of installing a sub/amp imo is running the wires. if you find out if it would work let us know.

Just run new wires. I sold my audiophile sub and tried to hook up from those wires that were there, and it was useless.

It works. There is a thread about this from a while ago...obviously you would have to run a new power wire, but the remote and signal wires are already there. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...le+aftermarket

It doesn't work. first you need an line out converter, that you need left and right +/- so theres your first problem. Second you need a fusible wire from the batterie, and a good ground. Then thirdly you need a remote wire, and the wire that is there for the factory sub will power it up , but wont shut off the sub for some reason. So it's easier to just wire it up at the rear of the radio.

I thought it was decided that the sub-out signal was simply a line level (same as an RCA signal out on a new HU, so no line output converter needed) signal and would just require an amp to run a sub?

I don't understand what you mean about the L&R +/-, since it is a mono signal, there is only one set of + and - leads, not a left and right. You would use either a mono amp or a bridged 2-channel.

My thinking is that if you spliced a male RCA plug onto the end of that harness in the rear, and used that as a the amp input signal, it would work. Assuming you ran a power and ground, and spliced into the remote lead on the back off the radio, which I do believe is actually there; I'm pretty sure I've seen the diagram on here....
