How many subs

Alright...im still deciding on how many subs i should get. I was planning on getting two 10 inch subs but now maybe just one. How big of a difference will two subs make over one? thanks

3 db louder if you put the same power to both subs. 500 watts to one sub or 250 to each of two will be the same output. The impact will be greater because of twice the cone area but, the volume would be the same. If you are going to say 500 watts per sub, then you get a 3 db increase. One good 10" sub in a proper enclosure with the right amount of power would be really good. If you can double the power and need the bass, you can go with two. Just remember that if you run the same split to two as you would to one, the results will not be louder, just more impact.

If you want one sub, then just make a ported box. A ported box will be louder and more effecient of the wattage you throw at your subs, but require a more specific box built to the subs you have. Just an option to think about.
