What comps should I get??
What comps should I get??
Well, I decided on just upgrading my stock comps and adding an amp.
My buddy gave me a Rockford Fosgate amp, so now all I need are some comps.
**REGULAR CAB BTW**
(1) Should I replace all 4 comps or just the front 2?
(2) What are the best sounding comps in your opinion? Links would be helpful. Will pay money for quality, but would prefer comps that offer the best value.
I have a Pioneer-P4600MP unit btw (50x4).
Many thanks from an audio n00b!!

What exactly is the amp? Are you a sound quality fanatic? Or are you a casual listener and audio sound quality really isn't a big deal? There is no such thing as a "universally" accepted "best" sounding comp set. Ask a hundred real experts and you would get at least 75 different answers to that question. You need to figure a plan, which includes budget, listening habits, music tastes, etc., and go from there. YOU are the one who should decide ultimately what you get, no one else. Most of the truly "high end, best sounding" stuff, 99% of people have never heard of. So, you need to do some research IF you really want a great set of speakers. Canton, Seas Lotus, Dynaudio, Rainbow, CDT. Otherwise, do what those 99% will tell you and go buy some MBQuarts, Infinitys, Pioneers, Polks, etc. People recommend what they know about, and that's what 99% of people know about.
I was just going to suggest Rainbow. Very nice, and their lowest price comps are only 130ish bucks. Dont let the price of those fool you, they are nice. Darn near got myself a pair but I got a good deal on my RE comps. Kinda wish I woulda went with the Rainbows myself though, everyone seems to have the RE RE comps now days.
I am very happy with the pioneer TS-C130R 51/2 components speakers, I did all four, front and rear doors on my 05 s-cab, and a bozooka 6.5 200w amplified sub were that jack was, the doors are powered by a pioneer GM-6100F 4 channel amp. I have alpine XM radio head unit CDA-9820XM, I used the A channel to the 4 channel amp and programmed the b channel to control the sub -woofer. I was very impressed with that outcome of my truck. Becarefull of your ears mine got sore the first couple days and had to mellow out. It was a really easy install . all the plastics pretty much pop right off . Aside from the 1" tweeters on the pilar of the rear doors and the head unit you can't see anything ,it looks all stock. Good luck
Ok, now I know that components are different than speakers. Trust me folks, that is a large step! At least I am learning...
Not to sound lazy, but components with the crossover, tweeter, etc. sounds too complicated to me and I don't think I need that extra 'umph'. I think I will go with some regular 'ol speakers. So having said that, what do you all suggest from the following?
Kicker 05KS68, Alpine SPS-570A, Infinity Kappa 682.7cf
btw, my Pioneer DEH-P4600MP unit is 50w x 4.
Open to other suggestions as well...

I can't believe they still have them, but Crutchfield has the Alpine SPR-570A for less than 1/2 price with full Alpine warranty. It's a better speaker than the SPS for $89.99. Regularly $199.99. Their shipping is very reasonable and their customer service is beyond great.
try Memphis audio for your speakers. i have had 3 sets in different vehichles. 2 sets (5.25", 6.5") of component, 1 set of (6.5") coaxial's. i swear when i first heard these on a sound board they blew away the competition including alpine, bostons, pioneer plus they have a over the counter warranty for 2 years! and they are very reasonably priced, cheaper than any of the others i mentioned before. btw unless your going in stereo competitions , you really won't notice any difference between coax and component, as long as their good speakers. plus coax's are close to half the price of components. post back if you need more help. good luck

componets the best
go with the componets . coxials are a bandaid for when you don't have room, the 05 f150 front doors have a cut out already waiting for a tweeter look at the grill its obvious , There isn't a whole lot of more work to install componets compared to coxials, just the cross over tape and stick in the bottom of the door, all the grills and door panels come off and go on easy. I was very impressed. All you need is a fork tool and phillps head screwdriver. I can remove all the doors and colum and step boards in about 15 min. its really easy. Don't be afraid its hard to damage anything. Except for the head unit and the tweeter on the rear door pilar, my system looks stock, everthing is hidden, Use plenty of sound deading material in the doors cut it up in little pieces and stick every where you can, ford has some but more is better. I'm very happy with my system couldn't imagine anything sounding much better.

97f250 , i understand exactly what forums are for! i believe i have sufficient facts to backup what i am saying, after all i have owned 3 sets of these speakers (its not like i have never heard them) and for me to repeat buying them (twice) i think that should be reliable enough.
i did not say run out and buy any coax from walmart and it would sound great. next time i'll PM you before i express my opinion on a post so you can proof read it first. sorry .

just believe you should have used some facts to back up what you said. This forum is for sharing good reliable info, not making statements that could be misleading to those who may not know any better than to believe them.
Toddzilla, to answer your question about the which to get. IMHO I would suggest the infiniti kappa's. I have them myself and love them. As fas as install, they were the same as when I installed pioneer components into my 97 probe---yeah I said probe---anyway, they sound great and I did a bunch of reading up before I bought them. I asked my brother-in-law for suggestions (some kind of sound engineer) he said that they were great speakers--usually expensive, but nice if you could afford. So I went around a bit and found them much cheaper on eBay and Yahoo! shopping than Cruthfield. As 92f250 mentioned, cruthfield does supply hardware, instructions, and customer service---but again, IMO you can get all that for a lot less right here on this forum!
...My two cents

BTW, Get the Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.1....
Go to crutchfield and look at the Polk Audio MMC5250, the Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.1, and the Polk Audio db5250 side by side comparison. I choose the IKP because they have such a broad frequency response value and their RMS power is very high (400 watt peak power), especially if you plan to amp them--which I recommend in a big crew cab like mine! I am not one of those guys who you can hear from a mile away, but It is simply the quality of product that I'm after, and the sound is good! Whatever brand you choose, 1. go with components, they'll sound better, 2. Read up on what each aspect of the speaker does for you--through cruthfield, etc. , 3. Buy from Yahoo! Shopping or Ebay for the best prices. Unless you get a good deal like they're running on polk audio at crutchfield. (buy one get one half price)

Will the Infinity Kappa 50.7cs 5-1/4" fit? They seem a little small...
If they do I think I will pick them up. I was switching back and forth between comps and speakers. I think I am sold on components now

My .02
Check out Bostion Acoustics as well. I went with a plate component in the back doors, and the Pro60 Comps in the front. Direct fit with the adapter plates that are included with the speakers.
Only other advice is listen before you buy.

Todd, yes they will fit, but realize they are 2 ohm speakers, and not the normal 4 ohm impedance. Great Speakers just make sure you can use them!
Most importantly, like TXscrew said , listen before you buy. All the specs in the world don't mean squat if they don't sound nice in the application.
