Unhappy Speaker Wiring for new amp installation

I ran new speaker wire directly from the rears to the amp. They work fine. For the front speakers instead of trying to run new wire through the doors, I wanted to tie into the harness at the head unit. So, I cut the wires from the head unit harness to the Ford wiring and connected the new wire there. Well, it didn't work. I saw a little smoke. Would the ford wiring from their harness have problems with the power from the amp? Are there any relays or ohm problems with this?

Thanks..

The Ford wiring harness for the speakers are not thick enough, or high enough guage to handle an amped signal. The stock wires are just about good for any after market head unit, but not anything over 30W RMS.

That's what I thought. I knew it didn't seem right going from an amped 16 gauge wire to the factory 20 or 22 gauge. Must have been what happened. Guess I need to search now for posts on how to get the wire through the door jam. Thanks....

Heres a tip on running a new wire where wire already exists: YOu can just tie and tape the new wire to the old wire and just pull the old through the door jam and keep pulling the new until all the new wire is run.

I think that the old wire is probably wrapped up with a bundle of other wire.
