Post subs in the box of a regular cab

I currently have the Premium Sound in dash cd player on my 2000 XL. I want more power, and am interested in changing all speakers, head unit, and installing an amp and subs in the box. I realize that this might involve getting a cap as well. I have a sliding glass rear window, so would it be possible to do? Putting subs in the box? Where would the wiring run? I am not really knowledgable in car audio, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

Go check out my stereo and that may give you a few ideas.
I retained most of the function of the truck and a relatively OE look.

hi bigjono
I asume you have a regular cab truck, and so do I. You should be able to fit everything inside your cab without having to put stuff in the bed.
There are a few options to improve your sound.
(1) you could use your factory head unit and use a high level to low level converter which will convert your signal to RCA type inputs for a amp.
(2) you could buy a aftermarket head unit, with RCA outputs.

In either case get a good six channel amp, and mount it under the drivers seat.Put some good component speakers in the front doors, and some less expensive speakers in the rear.

There are a lot of good choices for subs.
JL Audio makes a MicroSub you could put behind the seat. MTX makes a Sub box that goes all the way behind the seat.

If you can wait a week or so I am just about done with my install and will have some pics next week.

Bye the way if anyone is interested I have 2 AudioLink PowerlinkII high level to low level converters. They were only used for 8 months and are in awsome condition. I am not looking for any money, just pay shipping and give them a good home.

Thanks Don

Thanks for the replies. The problem is, is that I'm a big guy (6'6", 300 pounds), and I need the seats pushed all the way back (the headrest is pressed against the back glass window. Will the subs still fit?

Thanks

Lightbulb

I'm pretty big also 6'2" 245 lbs
My seat is only 1 notch away from all the way back with my subs.
I could have made the box an inch thinner to fit if I needed to.

I have a 2001 Regular Cab ordered (should get it in about 4 weeks I hope). I already have 2 10" MTX subs and amp and would like to add them to my new truck. I was wondering if I will be able to hook them up to the factory head unit (single CD w/ premium sound and amp), or am I going to have to go with a new head unit. I really don't know what the capabilities of the factory unit are.
