Which 12" to get?

I'm looking to trade in my two 8" subs for a single 12".

I want a Pioneer so I'm thinking either this one or this one. I can pick up a box at Walmart for $35 but am unsure just how good they are and if they rattle. Also, what is the difference in single and dual voice coils?

I'm working with very limited funds so please bare with me. I have a 50 watt Pioneer amp bridged to 150 and 300 watts max I believe. Thanks for the input!

I would just take that box from Walmart and make sure that it's sealed very well.
Nothing diff. between single or dual, the dual just gives you more wiring opions. See below on all the diff. wiring conf. Scroll down on that site to see them all.

Instead of using those pioneer subs i would go with the lower end clairion sub. I like the sound of it better.

The reason behind Pioneer is that everything else in my truck is Pioneer (head unit, amp).

Dupuis, thanks for the info. I thought it had something to do with wiring.

See if you can find one of these used. I used to have one and it rocked, but I was giving it about 350rms, not sure how it would fair with 150rms.

Of the 2 you chose, I'd go with just the sub and get a box or preferably make your own box.

Which amp (model #)are you running?

GM-X522

The sub came in last night and I got everything hooked up. It hits pretty hard but not quite as earth shaking as I thought. There's a 760w one on pricegrabber for $99 I have my eye on. How do you know when your amp isn't strong enough?

The RMS WATT rating of the AMP should be in the higher end of the RMS WATT rating on the sub(s).

i.e. 500 Watt sub - 300 to 500 watt AMP (RMS WATTS meaning power all day long)

just make sure you match the RMS watt ratings and not the peak ratings. also if your amp is turned all the way up and there's no distortion in the subs, the amp meybe too weak for them.

good luck

Is that what the Gain is for? I've heard very mixed things about that. My current amp has a Gain setting and a Bass Boost setting. I'm unsure of how to set either so I just kinda play around with it. The amp I'll probably get is 380w RMS (bridged) - 760w peak. The sub is 400w RMS - 800w max so I think that's a pretty good match.

pioneer sub

Looks like you've got a sub all ready but for anyone else looking for one...

The pioneer premiere TS-SW124D is awesome!!!
I recently put one in my super crew. It's a new low profile design (only 4" total thickness). Needs less airspace than normal 12" subwoofers. I'm currently running a 1600w amp with a remote gain dialed at about 25-30% power and after it was installed, I was blown away. It was way more bass than I had ever expected.
