Hey Dupuis!!!

After seeing all these threads on RE 8" I think I am going to give them a try.

I am a little knew at this and am having trouble deciding on an AMP and how to set up my wiring. Any thoughts. I Don't want to spend any more than $200 on amp.

By the way I am building a box from your specs and was curious the lenght of the port that you used. I know you used 3" PVC but I am assuming the length of the tube make a difference in quality of sound.

The port is 3'' thin wall pvc so it does not take up so much volume and when you put your box together, the smaller end of the box will sqeeze the thin wall pipe some which is fine. Notice the 90 in the pictures. The length is 26.5'' long which gives it a 35hz tune.
I'd look at alpine, Rockford, or MTX. Any one of those brands with at least 125 watts to each, although you could go as low as 75 watts on these, but I would try to stay above 125 and no more than 200. If you need more info, let me know.

Hey Dude,

I was checking out your layout. Looks great. Would you be able to send me over the dimensions of the box? You could either post them here or e-mail it to me a.zangolli@gmail.com . Also did you keep the stock radio installed in the truck? did you run ur stero off it? answering these questions will make my life alittle easier.

Thanks dude.

Here you go.

33''wide total. 17''wide were the subs are mounted and 16 over the hump.
Whole box is 11.75'' deep.
5.5'' in front and 4'' in back over the hump due to the angle of the seat.
6.25'' in front and 4.75'' in back were the subs are mounted.
The little leg on the side the holds up the box is 7'' deep from the front and 1.75'' tall.
Box is made of 5/8'' MDF.
Look at my box in my Gallery and you will understand what all of this means.

Yes, I run both amps off of my stock radio.

Dupuis ,

Was your stock radio originally an audiophile? I have almost the same truck and I want to do almos the same exact thing. (less the XM) I found a wire under my back seat, my head unit is a 6 disc in dash but not an audiophile. I want to make sure this will work.

I live in California and I don't want to change out the Head Unit, Might as well put a sign on the truck that says break into me. Leaving the head unit stock is the best deturant.

Besides I listen to AM quite often and aftermarket Head units suck for AM.

Thanks for your help!

You don't have to get an aftermarket HU.

You can hook up an amp by tapping into your rear speaker wires with a Line Output Converter or by getting an amp with with high level inputs.
