Looking at building custom backseat

Just wondering if anyone has built a custom back seat for their truck. I am thinking of building it outta mdf and covering it with foam and then cover it. i figure this way with a custom seat/sub box i can get enough air space to get 2 12's in there with the kinda airspace they need.

Before you start on this project. Might I ask what your intentions are? That is an aweful lot of work just to fit a pair of 12s...

What Deus said. Might as well buy a box from like subbox.net that will fit under your seat and hold 2 12's.

Or are you worried about the backspacing and lack of volume? If you are going with some deep subs and want a box that actually has the airspace to get them pounding, or if you are porting the box, then a seat probably is the only way to go.

I was gonna do the same thing that would hold 2 15's(but of course i didnt) I had a measurments and everything. I had it saved on my computer and if I can find the plans I will post them for you.

Dont forget strong braces and maybe ever 1" MDF instead of the usual 3/4" so its strong. If you get 3 average sized adults back there, think, thats a lot of weight, so its gotta be strong.

But anyway, if i find those plans Ill try to get them to you.

the 12's i have require about 9.8" mounting depth. So an under the seat installion won't really cut it.

http://www.hzemall.com/Accord_folder...ord_stereo.htm

that site there shows kinda what i want to do, only my box would have the subs firing by the feet instead of at the back.

Unless you really want to get your hands dirty and throw down a few hundred bucks...I would consider a subwoofer that fits. For instance, an Illusion Audio ND15 would easily fit underneath the seat with no modification.

If you want to pursue this idea, then you are going to need to enlist the help of a good upholstery shop. They can recommend a basic design for the frame and then lay the foam and wrap it. More than likely no one will want to actually sit back there after it is done so you may find it better to just rip out everything to do with the seat.

Well it looks like i am going to go ahead with the box/seat. I am gonna angle the top of the box so that there isn't that much loss in head room. Also i am gonna put 4 10" subs in. I talked to a number of people and they say this will be better then putting in 2 12's. They also suggested i put the subs in firing toward the floor rather then firing forward. I am also looking at getting a 2000 watt amp to run these babies right now i only have a 1000w, which could run 4 10's fine but i need more power and need to win comps.
