1st timer hooking up the system 2 questons help
I am putting in the MTX Thunderform this weekend with a Rockford amp but I am using the stock 6CD in dash h/u. I bought the amp kit as well as a line convertor so I can hook everything up.
My questions are
1) is there a good place to route the power wires to the battery so I dont have to drill a hole? what have you done?
2) Where can I tap into for the remote wire? I heard the cigarette lighter but maybe there's an easier way?
Please help I have never done this before

Well, the place I routed my power wire is through a grommet on the underside of the truck, by the passengers side rocker panel.
If you pop off the door sill on the passengers side you will see it, about the size of a half dollar or so, kinda towards the front of the door. Its nice that it comes inside the cab already under the door sill so you can run it to the back.
Or look around where the steering shaft goes into the firewall, there are some around there
As for the remote turn on, I dont think the cigarette lighter would work because I think its constant power(I not positive though). You can find a switched source just about anywhere. If you want to take out the radio there is a black wire with a red stripe that is switched I know. If you pop off the kick panels there has to be a switched source back there somewhere.
If I think of anymore Ill let ya know
Good luck

Find a place as close to the amp as possible. You want to keep the ground wire as short as you can. You can drill a new hole and put a bolt through it, or use some other bolt already there. Make sure to scrape the paint off and clean the grounding point, and get it tight. Crimp a ring or spade terminal on the end(dont jsut stick the wire under the bolt and tighten it). If you drill a new hole they say to use an anodized bold and star washer for the best ground. I dont think it really matters what kind of bolt and washer you use though. What they recomend probably will get you alittle better ground though. Make sure to check underneigh to so you dont drill through anything bad.

what about the grounding?

As for an attachment point, I personally like to use a seat bolt or a seat belt bolt.

Another way for the ground is to just unbolt the seat belt on the floor and then wrap your ground wire (After it's stripped of course) around it and then bolt it back down. That's what I've done before and it works great and there isn't any drilling.
EDIT- I guess I should read ALL the post before I reply...
