How many of you...

How many of you just go out and sit in side your car at night and just listen to your stereo?

I am sitting in my truck right now listening to some Phil Collins and sippin' a brew and am just amazed at how good it sounds. Its times like this that I am really glad that I have gotten into this hobby for SQ and not SPL.

Oh and you can't beat being on online while sitting in your car and listening to the stereo. God bless wireless.

I figured I'd ask since we haven't had a good 'discussion' since the gain thread. So lets just see where this one goes...

I sometimes migrate out to the car just to listen and tweak and sometimes just to listen and drink. The system sounds excellent and since I love music of all kinds it tends to be a big draw for me. Sometimes I go out to the truck with a glass of wine, listen to some great symphonic recordings and pretend I am one of those rich pompous ******.

Since I installed my sub-par system (in comparison to most others) I have to admit I find myself in my truck more and using it to go more places. The miles are adding up quickly. I was changing the oil saturday and I had some Paul Hardcastle playing, and then some Vince Gill.
I washed it next and was drying it off along with cleaning the inside and I found myself just really appreciating the nice sound.
Music has a way of bringing you back to a certain place in time, just with a simple song. That is so cool. Like some old Candlebox, Alice in Chains, Tool, etc.

You gotta love the crisp highs, the smooth mids and the low lows.

I definitely spend more time in it. Its nice to have a more complete sound with the new speakers and all. Man, those stock stereos just dont sound worth a flip! They have some OK features, but overall I wouldn't go back to a factory system.

Music can really change your mood, and on the contrary, funny how your mood determines the type of music you listen to.

My old lady is gonna have to pry me out of there once I get the new HU and DVD/ monitor goin on.

Hazard, are you running RTA software on your laptop when your playin with the stereo? That really drags me into it. Thank goodness I never got the car adapter for my laptop, i'd never get out of there.

Hey steve, how do those 5 cubes sound?

From the looks, I bet it could really put some pressure on your eardrums.

Nice looking setup. Does anybody ride in the back?

They sound incredibly loud and yes, lots of pressure. Got power of the gods behind them I've always been what some would say a bass head and that combo fit the bill very nice. Just hoping it doesn't tear up the truck too fast. Pretty worried about my auto dimming mirror hangin in there. I am guessing somewhere in the low to mid 140's but never actualy measured it yet with something calibrated.

The only ones that ever ride back there are the dogs and that's not very often. They ride in there kennels in the back most of the time. Actualy made for more room to carry crap.

Well I do have RTA software some where on the comp, but I haven't gotten a mic. Eventually I will, but setting up a saltwater aquraim has made me go broke.

I miss having an aux input on my HU now that I have a laptop and a wireless connection.

Right on. Yeah, Tried the whole saltwater gig about 15 years ago. Had an 80 Gallon Saltwater setup with all the goodies. Seemed every few months it would get away from me or i'd buy the wrong fish and it would all turnover. I also got burned out getting them food all the time but they were pretty cool looking!

Yea I had a tank in the past...

This time I researched a little more and am doing it right from the start. I hope to have it up and running by this weekend. Its a 120 and its going to be setup as a reef, and because of it I can't even afford natty light now.

Steve, is that box sealed or ported? It just seems like 2.5 cubic ft. per 10 is a lot of airspace. I have not checked the specs on those 10's and I am probably wrong, just a wonder. If it is a little more airspace than recommended, does it allow your speakers to hit the lower frequencies? Does it bottom out?

I have one 10" Eclipse in a ported superbass box and it bottomed out pretty bad the other day. I believe it was a note of 25hz or lower. It was on the bass mekanic 5.0 cd. Its song #13.

Anyway, Haz, sorry to hear you cant even afford a 6 pack of natty lights (nutra rat ). Maybe its time to downgrade to tha "BEAST", good ol milwauke's best light!!!!

It is ported tuned to 30 hz. Little lower than the recomended 38 but I like em like that. Shakes my shirt and tickles my nose What, I can't hear ya

It is the recomended Ultimate SPL Bass Box from the bahn site. The drivers are 2004 Sound Q model ALUM10Q. Dual magnet, dual voice coil, Flat spider with wove in leads, aluminum cone etc. They take everything the 1500D can throw at them wired at 1.3 ohm. All parallel dual 6 ohm coils.

Was reading the other day about a system that allows you to down load songs to you HU from you home computer wireless. Has like a 100' range.
That would be cool to sit in your truck and down load songs from your home system and hear them right away and delete from the HU if you don't like it.

I am guessing somewhere in the low to mid 140's
that would be impressive from those subs. my guess is more around high 130's maybe 140. but i guess depending on the install/box design you could get mid 140s.

i run four eclipse ti pros in a sealed bench similar to your design. and i pull a 146 on the new termlab mic and 148 on the old version. the new mics and mega tuff. nice choice on that amp. i love the brutus line. i used to use one to run a ED 15a.
now i run three avionixx 1200.2's

how do you like ported in our trucks?? i have always gone sealed.
mainly because i need the space in the back and i have always run multible subs so ported has always been a non option for me.
but i have always wanted to go ported. i guess once my kids grow up and they dont need a back seat i'll be able to put my wall back in. it is sealed also but uses 6 RE12's so loudness is not an issue. lol. i have never gotten to hear ported in our trucks yet. with the exception of the pro unlimited class guys and well those are just insain installs so there not a very good reference point

I thought I really burned myself getting these subs. The whole reason was so they would fit in a box under my back seat (mounting depth). Now look what i've done. Figure once they blow, i'll change em over to RE. I've been really surprised at what these things are sounding like. After a few weeks and a few tweeks, that box rocks! What ever the spl is, it's frikin loud.

I love the ported box. Like I said, started out with one of the pre fabbed boxes that fit under the back seat. It was a sealed .65 sq ft ea. Sounded like absolute crap. Wouldn't hit bellow 50 hz but let me tell you, kick drums felt like you were getting kicked in the back of the head. I then opend up the center divide in the enclosre and pulled one of the 10's. It gave me 1.2 sq ft. Ported it to the recomended 38 hz and it finally hit low. 28 @ -3db but wasn't very loud. Then broke out this box and OMG. hitting 24 hz - 3db and it got very loud. I am totaly satisfied with the enclosure. If your ever in San Diego, let me know and we will take her for a ride.

How big is the enclosure you have those speakers in? What sort of response is it getting?
