Speaker Installation: Will it work?

I'm hoping to get some suggestions on speaker installation. Let me give you some background. I had a 1995 single cab F-150. I had 2 10` inverted Kicker Freeair's professionally installed in it. They built a box for each speaker. They ported each box because the speaker's are freeairs'. If I'm wrong on this, let me know.

Now, I have a 2001 F-150 SuperCrew. I would like to put these speakers in my new truck. As is, the speakers will not fit in the truck in the current boxes they reside in. My main question is, since the speakers are freeair, do they need a box? I would like to put them under the back seat, if possible. Should I just scrap the whole idea and get all new equipment? Or is there a way to make these work? Any suggestions on what to do will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can still use your same subs you had you will just need to get a new box. Preferrably one that is ported for that particular sub. The sub will work in a sealed enclosure but it just will not create the same sound you have grown accustomed to having and you will more than likely notice a decrease in the output of them. Just make sure that you have your new box properly tuned to the correct frequency for the subs if you decide to go with a ported enclosure.

Now to address your question about freeair subs. What a freeair sub needs is what is often referred to as an infinite baffle (basically like mounting the subs in the rear deck of a car) which will seperate the front and back of the subwoofers output so that you don't experience cancellation.

you gotta check the specs on the speakers mounting depth and airspace. I had a similar problem with my speakers. I had a 2000 regular cab with two JLW3 dual voice coils. They fit like a charm in my old ride but the supercrew i have now there was no option except to build a box behind the back console. I wasn't down with losing all that room so i bought a probox and a kicker pro compV. I will let you know how it stacks up when i hook it up tonight.
