Exact sub dimensions

Anyone know a site where I can get cross-sectional diagrams or at least get EXACT dimensions (all dimensions) of various subwoofers? I'm trying to pre-plan a sub box, including the speaker for it.

If such a thing doesn't exist, but some of you happen to have some info, I'm specifically (at the moment) considering the following subs:

Infinity Kappa Perfect 10 VQ
Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1
Infinity Kappa 100.3se

I appreciate whatever info anyone can give me. The main things I need to know are the outer diameter of the mounting ring, the required cutout size, diameter of the magnet, and the exact distance from the base of the mounting ring to the base of the magnet. I might be looking at mounting the speaker on a non-perpendicular surface of the box, and I need this info to calculate the necessary angles (and determine if any of these speakers will even fit.)

Grim, Infinity's site has a pdf link with all the info you could want on all 3 of those subs. Good luck!

Been there and looked at that. The only information I'm looking for that's on that site is cut-out diameter.

It has a mounting depth listed, but no indication of how that mounting depth is measured. I'm planning on mounting this speaker in a space that's only 7-1/2" deep. Once you subtract 1-1/2" for the MDF, and space under the box so that the face of the sub isn't resting on the floor, the remaining space is too tight to rely on non-exact information.

I'm considering building out of 1/2" MDF instead of 3/4" MDF for the space, and using fiber filler to keep the box from giving nasty vibrations, because that's the only way, without exact measurements, that I can be sure the speaker will fit.

Grim,

All speaker manufacturers provide mounting depth for all of the speakers they have. They measure this from the mounting side of the basket (the lip that keeps the sub from falling into the enclosure) to the farthest tip of the speakers magnet or motor assembly if you will (aka backplate). The most important thing to remember here is that you will need to give a little extra beyond the mounting depth to allow a speaker with a vented voice coil the room to move air and this has been suggested to be anywhere from a minimum of 3/4" to as great as 2" depending upon the sub used.

Yes, but looking at two differenct sites, specifically at the Kappa Perfect 10.1, I find one that shows the mounting depth as 5-3/4" and another that shows it as 6".

This, to me, indicates that these numbers are not EXACT, merely "close enough."

And, without the magnet diameter and the outer diameter of the mounting ring/lip, it still doesn't help me calculate whether I would be able to mount this at an angle.

A nice start would be to get a real answer for the lip-base to magnet-base (mounting depth) measurement from someone who's actually measured it, instead of reading the "close enough" value off a box/datasheet.

Grim,

Directly from the owner's manual they give the mounting depth of 5-7/8" for both the single and the dual voice coil kappa perfect 10.1 and a cut out diameter of 9-1/8"

As far as you getting your specs from other sources other than the owners manual I will tell you they are absolutely unreliable. The only specs that you can trust for reliability is the owner's manual. When it comes to the magnet diameter and other measurements all I can say to you is that if you want that information I suggest that you go to a local shop and have them pull one for you to measure it yourself.

Thanks, cgorris.

I tried that last night, but I was told (at the place I went to) that they don't stock Kappa Perfects because they don't sell enough of them. It's special order.

But, the mounting depth you gave me is good enough. I think I'm just going to give up on the Infinities, and look at Polk/Momo or MTX instead.

Grim,

Have you tried calling Infinity directly and speaking to someone in their tech help? They should be able to provide that info to you quite easily. Just a thought in case you wanted to stick with the Kappa's.

That's what I would suggest. I have been emailing Audiobahn's tech guy for the last 2 days getting info. Although the website listed their AW800Q as having a 4 3/8" mounting depth, he faxed something to me right out of the manual that says that it has a mounting depth of 4 7/8. He even measured it and verified. So be careful everyone.

I've pretty much given up on the Infinity at this point.

I think I'm just going to go with an MTX T81044A.

The MTX sub is also a nice piece. So if you feel more comfortable with that route then I say, go for it.

I've always been kind of fond of MTX, myself. The main two points for me is that it's only 5" deep, and it vents heat out the sides instead of the rear.

I'm pretty sure at this point that I'm going with MTX amps, too. I've had a hard time finding amps in the power ranges I want that will fit (in a custom amp rack) under the driver-side rear seat in a late model supercab. I found an MTX 4-channel and a mono sub amp that I can fit under there stacked.
