You just answered your own question. Dont use a solid material. Silicone caulk is your friend.

There is a guy on the lightning forums with a red lightning and subs and amp in the bed. I wouldn't put an amp back there, but subs would work back there. Do you have any kinda bed cover? Fastening the box down is a difficult thing? If you fiberglassed the box and painted the color of the truck the fiberglass might withstand the weather better than wood? I'd just fiberglass over the wood and paint it the color of the truck.. Also you will want to bolt it down somehow. It would be really easy to steal.

1. chickenears is cheapest on bedrugs that I'm aware of.
2. thenickman has a ported bed and a huge sub box with three 12's in the back. For the port he used accordian boot and the port size looked to be around 8"tall by 24 wide or something like that. I saw it at the NMRA finals in Bowling Green. It is pretty awesome. I think he did it back in 99 when he bought his Lightning.

Cool heres that red truck you were talking about, it's mine..

I had taken the old subbox out of my tahoe and sort of retrofitted it into my truck for the time being, its not there anymore, I'm working on a custom box for the interior..
