What are the best SUBS in your opinion
also, I'm not a bass head, but would it be better to have two 10" in the back seat(02 supercrew-custom box) or one kick azz 10" or 12".I listen to some rap not alot(hard rock, alternative/metal)but a nice bass"tight" would be nice... and budget is a slight issue, and maybee a good amp
In my opinion a 12 inch kicker comp VR would good for the pricve, you can get one for around 100 bucks. To get the "tight" bass, you want to put it in a sealed box. Tis site has some pretty good deals in my opinion millionbuy.com
p.s. If you decide to go with kicker, make sure your getting the comp VR, not the normal comp(BIG ARRSS DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE!)

Since you are not a total bass head, it would be better to get one kickass 10" or 12" sub. IMO Kicker Comp VP's are at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to subs. I suggest you take a look at IDMAX or Elemental Designs.
Well... I'll sell ya my Audiomobile EVO 10".. LOL
Audiomobile has gone out of business... but the EVO is a great sub. Great SQ but also gets loud when I want it to.
My next sub will likely be an Elemental Designs e10k.. the specs are very similar to the EVO.

There is no such thing as a comp VP, it is a comp VR. My buddy has been running two comp VR 12's in his ford focus for a year and a half at 415 RMS when they are rated at 400 RMS. THEY REALLY ********ING HARD AND CRISP. I will be getting one comp VR 10 and running it with 200 watts RMS in my single cab. Have you ever herd the kicker truck? If not, you need to FEEL 85,000 watts in real life...its insane...
A 12 will generally give you good heavy bass for Rap type bass and still hit hard for Rock bass. I have heard some good 10's too but usually it'll take 2 10's to get comparable to a single 12 of the same caliber. If you're only looking to add some extra oomph to your stock system then a good single 10 can do that. Another thing to consider is that a 12 takes more power (generally) to sound as "tight" as a comparable 10. Think about how an extra 2 inches on the outside of circle will add a lot to the total surface area of a sub.
Pi r^2 = area
3.14 * 5^2 (25) = 78.5 (10" sub)
3.14 * 6^2 (36) = 113 (12" sub)
That's 70% more area for one speaker roughly speaking.
I would go with a 12" but 10's will fit better inside a pickup. Also, spend the extra dollars and buy quality equipment. It'll last longer, take more abuse and sound better. My personal favorite for subs is JL Audio, but there are many good subs out there. Same with amps. Go to a place that carries good quality equipment and look around and listen to some stuff. Make a decision on what you want and then shop around for a good price.
ehem, end ramble.

it truely is a shame that it takes Team Gates (kicker's Bronco) 85,000 watts paired with 48 subs only to be almost beaten by a single sub and 5,000 watts. I know this is impressive by normal standards, but is a big waste of money IMO. One name comes to mind: Digital Designs. Nathan Munson took one DD 9515 and 2 Viper 2500D amps and broke the 170 barrier. i'd like to see ANY kicker sub that could even break 165, much less 170. You havent heard sh*t if you think a measily Comp VR "Slams"
for the everyday person, any of the lower DD lines or Elemental lines will more than fit in any situation whether it be SPL or SQ. some may disagree, but DD subs will perform just as well in a SQ environment as it will in a SPL environment. the company originated as makers for studio transducers. Elemental just kicks *** by all standards (price and performance) the K series is near IMPOSSIBLE to beat. only sub that compares (in price vs. performance battle) is the Adire Audio Shiva. although the shiva is more SQ oriented, it will still perform well on the mic.
A 12 will not hit as tight as a 10 in a sealed enclosure, also they require less space (good for trucks). I have one 10" rockford fosgate and it adds to my system, putting in some sick component set to seal the deal this week. Should sound sick when its finished. Kicker is a great brand, but most people, (like alot of my freinds) who push Kicker pride themselves in bumping there system so loud that it can set of car alarms or be heard 2 blocks away. My main focus is SQ, not to drown out my music with too much bass.
Go to a local audio store, bring your favorite CD (which is?), and listen to some tens, and some 12's. but remember it will sound different in your truck than in the store. (bigger volume in the room, makes the base spread out) Anyway and chose what fits you. My one 10" can rattle the car and be heard down the street if I want, but I keep it at a medium level to add good SQ to my rock music.
Good luck

Ive noticed that location is related to what people recommend. Like what litspliff said about those subwoofers and amps, i hae not even heard of them nor has my friend who owns a stereo shop. Main stream stuff in LA is Fosgate, Crossfire, Kicker, and Cerwin Vega. Does anyone else find this odd?
Its not about location...its about keeping up with the car audio community. You will not find Elemental Designs, DD, or Adire Audio in local stores (bestbuy, etc.). They are internet companys that are very popular in the car audio community.
Well, I definately don't keep up anymore... I've got the same Kicker 12" XPL that I've had for 4 years (been in 5 different vehicles. 2 Flaresides BTW). Built a new box for the truck, put the crappy BOSS amp back on it (keep saying I'm going to buy a new amp, but this one seems to be doing the job well enough for now), and it's all I need to sound good, **** off the neighbors or give passengers headaches...

If I'm not mistaken, DD subs are more or less designed for SPL, meaning that they "burp" at a certain frequency, creating a peak in SPL at that point. Subs such as this are criticised by many experts who favor SQ. So these are not what CARPE DIEM wants. Elementals are SQ friendly, from what I understand, although I have no personal experience. My advice is to buy what fits all YOUR needs and requirements, not someone else's. Take into consideration the rest of your system, and buy something that will keep your system nicely balanced.
